Can't build up heat

Hi all i have recently built a smoker from 2 propane cylinders 1 large cylinder for chamber and small one for fire box using lumpwood charcoal i have started a good fire and the smoke travels well but does not create enough heat especially the bottom half of chamber. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I will post pictures soon...
