Hello to all. Ive only been smoking for a couple a months and Its been on an ECB. Did all the mods to it and still it was a lot of work to maintain temp. So here is what I did. Hope it works.

The burner Bayou Classic BG 12

Mounted inside original coal pan

Rails for the chip pan

1/2 inch Imperial Rope Gasket

Close up of fitting

Fresh coat of high temp paint

The chip pan is 6 inches from the burner. May have to raise the chip pan or lower the burner. Depending on how low i can keep the flame may have to add a vent/ chimney on the lid. With an adjustable regulator or needle valve I should be OK.

This was a first for me.

The Brinkman was free. Burner, Fittings. Rope gasket, hardware, and paint aprox. $ 35

Input, comments and ideas are encouraged.

Only thing I would add if you haven't are some holes in the bottom pan to pull in fresh air for the burner. And you may find that you need to plug some burner holes as the ECB is pretty small and doesn't need alot of BTU's to smoke. That looks like a big BTU burner. Otherwise, looks great! Love to see this level of modding!

Spoolinaz: Thanks for the compliment.  I will drill air holes in the pan. Waiting for an adjustable regulator from Amazon. I have not fired this up yet. If need be, how should i go about filling some of the holes in the burner? It is big at 50,000 BTU's.

Easiest would be to drill and tap and use machine screws, #6 maybe? Brazing might be an option if you have the equipment. I think the stock burner in my XL was half that big, and was too much burner. The XL probably has 3x or more the volume of an ECB. You will definitely be playing around with it a bit, but no reason why it wouldn't work. When you need something bigger, you could always just build a UDS and transfer the guts into that!

Spoolinaz: Ok so the adjustable regulator i ordered was not in stock. So canceled the order. Bought a hose and regulator at my local True Value. Was looking for a needle valve. No go. Bought a ball valve and some adapters to control the flame. Fired it up. Flame was totally orange. Backed off the gas with the ball valve. Finally got a small blue flame and a little gust of wind blew it out. This was the story for the next 30 minutes. I did see a you tube vid of a guy who wrapped sheet metal around the bottom for a wind block. I am thinking of doing this. My question is do you think the ball valve ( 1/2") is going to help me with the flame? I wasn't able to see what the temp got up because of the wind. I'm going to fill in some holes on the burner this weekend. Need help on this one.

It sounds like the Burner isn't getting a Good air mix. Its hard to tell from the photo how the venturi is set up. But the air and gas need to mix in the burner tube before it can burn well. You should be getting a hot strong flame out of that burner. Need to figure that out before you can go any father.

Spoolinaz: You are Exactly correct on the mixture. Where I went wrong is that  i have a regular 1/8 inch threaded pipe going directly into the end of the burner and propane fitting after that.

I  think the pipe is going too far inside the tube and not getting any (not enough)  O2 with the gas. Ordering this part from Bayou Classic and a needle valve or regulator/needle valve combo. Should have done this in the first place. This is a good learning lesson. Thanks again. I will keep you updated.

This a specific part for the burner from B.C.

Even better i should get this with the correct fitting for my burner.
