Newbie smoker here, with a question about manipulating the direction of the smoke in a smoke house.

I built my own smoke house out of a 42u server rack, and bought an electric Bradley Smoke Generator for cold smoking. On my initial test 'burn-in' the Bradley performed great, but I noticed a lot of residue on the part of the generator which is outside the smoke house, indicating much of the smoke was travelling back into the smoke generator's output tube instead of into the smoke house.

I am guessing this means I need to modify the air (smoke) flow in the smoke house towards the front (generator is in the rear). Does anyone have any suggestion / experience with this?

Thanks!

do you have a stack on it so it creates a draft inside smoker drawing smoke thru it? i also seen on a hread where someone used a computer cooling fan to blow the smoke into smoker, think proper draft wud do it though

Post some pics of your smoker and then we might be able to help you our better..... But I agree if you have proper draft then it should draw the smoke out the post of smokehouse....

Great looking smoke house, and I agree it looks like a air flow problem.
3 must haves for a cold smoker are air in, air out,and a smoke dissipater, stale smoke will ruin anything you have in your smoker. The smoke should gently kiss the meat on it's way past ;)

I went back and looked at your building pics on another thread and don't see any stack on the roof of your smoker. The question I have is are there any fresh air intakes on the bottom of your smoker and to do you have a stack for smoke to exit from on the top. Air flow is important.

Yup, Yup, Yup. Sounds like more air flow/draft is needed. Had a very similar problem with my cold smoker. I added an upper and a lower vent. Hope this helps.
Andy.
