What material do you guys use to make your burn box baskets? Also similar would be grill/grates used to hold firewood as it burns?

Everything I’ve tried to use just burns up in a few months, looking for a more sustainable option.

I made a charcoal wood basket from expanded metal I got from the scrap yard. Not sure the number but it was a lot thicker than the flat expanded used for making grates.

I got tired of messing around with my non-welded cheaply made creations. I ordered one similar to this and set it on two fire bricks placed edge wise, it has been great.

I made another one out of #9 expanded steel after my original wore out. I then reinforced it with 1/4" rod on the bottom. About every 2".

I prefer #9, 3/4" raised for charcoal baskets, it's a little more robust. I bolt the ends. And #9, 3/4 flat for grates as it's easier to clean.
