bees have been scarce this summer which is odd and sad. Normally we have tons of yellow jackets - so many we fill the traps more than once per summer.

Yesterday we were having morning coffee on the deck and the one bee seeks me out and sings my second toe. I get stung about once per year - my wife never does. and I have a horrible reaction - the sting area swells like its gonna explode, red hot itchy etc. here is my whole foot swelled up 24 hours after. cant bend my toes or see an ankle at this point. whatcha gonna due - it'll pass at some point. then there next summer. Usually when i see a bee/wasp close by a run around like a child flailing allover. people who dont know me just think im strange. but when this happens every time...I think it warranted.

I wish they would stick to pollen and flowers and leave me alone...i must have tasty bee attractant for blood.

We were camping at a state park for a month vacation... I decided I was going to drink gin and tonics....
Next day I got stung 2 or 3 times.... same the next day....
I attributed it to the tonic...
Stopped drinking it and never got stung again....
Check your diet....

That sucks lol. I swell like crazy as well. Few years back I got stung in the ear by a red wasp. Ear got huge. Looked like a giant red fake ear. I could feel it jiggle on the side of my head lol

When I see them I think " I'm gonna kill you ! " They always fly off . So check your diet , and don't be afraid . Lol . I'm so damned swelled up these days , I wouldn't know if I got stung or not .
Had a wasp once that wouldn't leave me alone . So with a " you asked for it " swipe of my hat I nailed him . Take that ! Put my hat back on ,, you guessed it . Not dead , and in my hat . Nailed me way more than I nailed him . Right on the forehead .
Hope your swelling goes down soon .

My wife and lifelong hunt-fishing-and golf partner are both anaphylactic and always have a EpiPen on hand, I've had to drive my partner to the ER twice in over 40 years. There was one time were standing on a tee waiting for the fairway to clear and I watched a honeybee crawling around the top on a little white flower in the grass. As I watched for no good reason it just flew straight at my partner and stung him in the neck. Ten minutes later it was round over and on the way to the ER, he was red as a beet. There were a couple of times I had to gut wild hogs he'd shot as the yellowjackets were all over in an instant. You might want to see a doc about this Dave, it's a life or death instance for some. For me, it's like getting a sliver, feel something crawling on my neck, reach my hand back to wipe it off, get stung in the neck or hand. RAY

That suck for sure. My wife is allergic to bees and wasp stings. Plus she is on blood thinners from a previous blood clot. So even a mosquito bite causes bleeding, bruising, etc. I feel for ya man. Never thought of diet change, she does eat a lot of sweets now and then. Wouldn't hurt to change it for the bees as well as health.
Hope it clears up fast.

That's pretty well Swelled up, Sandy!! Damn Bees!!

I remember when I got home for the first time, after Vietnam, they had a Big Picnic at Mrs Bear's Dad's house, for Me & Mrs Bear. My Grandmother was there, and she got stung by a Yellowjacket on her Ring Finger. Her finger swelled up pretty bad & it got worse that night. My Grandfather had to cut the ring off of her finger. She Cried & Begged him to cut her finger off instead. He said in Pennsylvania Dutch, "Now Cora don't be stupid, I can get the ring fixed." They had been married for 55 years at the time.

Dave, sorry to hear about your plight buddy. As several have stated, you may wanna see about getting shots or something since this seems to be a regular thing for you.

They say bees can smell fear.....

I'm no expert in any way on this and am only quoting what I've heard. Indications are that fear exudes pheromones and bees can pick up on that. If you were to smash one bee, others would pick up the exact same thing as from your fear and you may see a bunch of them over smashing one. I don't have any issues with them (thank God) but friends did when I was growing up. It's not a pretty sight to see somebody get stung that's allergic to them, that's for sure. Worst I ever had happen was a yellow jacket get into my beer can, and of course I had no idea it was there until I took a sip. Holy Hell!! Got zapped right on the lip. After about 10 minutes I looked like I took the best shot Mike Tyson had to offer, right on the kisser. Blessedly that was a one-time ordeal and now I cover my drink pretty much any time it's just sitting. We don't get many bees here though. mostly honey bees and they leave us alone.

good stuff!! yeah, my doc is aware of the issue. she has considered an epi-pen. while the reaction is bad, its consistent. if it ever got much worse I am sure between my wife and doc they would insist on the epi.

not what part of my diet would be making them come after me and not my wife, we eat all the same stuff. its the same with mosquitoes, I get bit and she does not...baffling
