I'm not a advocate of cleaning the walls or top of my smokers but i check the bottom for grease or other little chunks that do need to be cleaned out. It's a important safety rule we should all follow and thanks for sharing this xjcamaro.

This happened to me a few months ago in my electric smoker. I took the meat out and just let it burn itself out fire ext. in hand..
