I've never made chicken lollipops before, so I figured tonight was as good a time as any to give them a try! “She-who-must-be-obeyed” was out of town, and since she's not a fan of dark meat, chicken drumsticks were officially back on the menu!

These little suckers are a LOT more work than I thought they'd be! Cutting, trimming, snipping tendons, and trying to get the darn things to stand up straight. Who knew a chicken leg could be so much trouble?

After all that effort, I figured wrapping them in bacon might make the whole exercise worthwhile. After all, bacon makes just about everything better!

Onto the RecTeq Backyard Beast at 225°F for 20 minutes, then cranked it up to 325°F to finish and get that bacon looking good.

For a side dish, I whipped up some sweet-vinegar dill coleslaw. A pretty darn good combination, if I do say so myself.

Bottom line... supper was YUMMY!

Was it more work than I expected? Absolutely. Would I do it again? You bet!

Enjoy the pics!

Those look great Eddie, and just enough for a single serve seating, lol

Really those look great, you are right about the work, Wayne @thirdeye showed me in a post how to do these up and remove the little parts.

Good work Ed.

I am going to try these soon. They do look good. Has anyone tried brushing bbq sauce or maybe honey on them just before removing from the grill?

Well, the trimming time gets shorter the more you do it. One time I weighted the scraps just to see...

I can share one tip when bacon wrapping about anything... buy the thick cut, then cover with some clear wrap and pound them. This makes the slices sort of sticky and it wraps easier around whatever item.

I think you have it down! Those look great. Never bacon wrapped them, but lollipops are quite good.
