I smoked some pork loin and beef steaks today and decided to chop up some wild apples that fell nearby. I put them right into my fire as well as near the top of my firebox and it produced a nice sweet smoke. We just ate dinner and you can taste the apple. It was a really nice twist and the wife and kids loved it.
Try it sometime

I may try that. I have an apple tree in the yard that is overproducing this year.

Take care, have fun, and do good!

Meowey

Great idea ... must try that!

That, my friend, is a great idea.

Now I have a quandery, do I use my apples for smokin, and ignore my poor, sweet baby horses who hang on the fence, softly nickering everytime I show myself, begging for those sweet treats, and then I say, sorry Skipper, Dixie, TC, and Prayer. I need those apples for BBQ, but you can have them after they are full of smoky goodness?

Aw hell, I think I will just go buy them a bag of three way.

Excellent way to go, Matt!

I wonder if a bunch of lemon or orange rind would produce a similar effect. Hmmnn! Maybe some whole pears. Wow! New things to do!

And Terry, I understand your quandary! Do I put apples in the smoker or leave them about for, uhhh, well uhh, this is the back country you know!

Cheers!

Sounds very interesting if used sparingly. I would think if to many are used it would be like green wood?!?

Now, I never would have thought of that... great idea!!!! That just opened up a whole new avenue!
