Just wondering.

Sterling Lodge #171 AF & AM of Kansas Life Member.

Several friends are. I'm not. Maybe some day, really don't have the time to dedicate to anything else with 2 kids, full time job, and 2 businesses. Been to a few of their "open events" as a guest, always had a great time.

I had an ex member tell me some of the weird stuff they believe and do and it creeped me way out.

I never asked my Dad what they did/didn't do or believe. All I know is that every FM I've ever known has been a decent person.

HOWEVER, as in ALL "groups", there will always be the odd man out.

Ex father in law and several close friends were/are Shriners. They do some great work with the kids and their hospitals. They do have a secret handshake for easy recognition and cannot approach you about joining the Mason's. You must inquire with a member.
Always told the FIL that I couldn't drink enough liquor to join 🤣 .
Have attended many events and provided the band for many more.
Those guys know how to PARTY

If a man asks to become a Mason, then it is of his own freewill and accord. He has not been cohorsed. A father can not ask his son. The son has to ask to gain admission, then by petition.
The Masonic ritual is Biblical based. Specifically the building of King Solemn's Temple in the Old Testament.
Unlike the Shriners, Masons are not allowed to have alcohol at their meetings.

George Washington the father of this nation was FM. Very old organization.

My grandpa was FM supposedly “way back” 33rd degree or whatever. Not only secret handshake but secret phrases. I was 17 when he passed, he really didn’t talk to me about it much just stuff I noticed.

Can't talk about religion here but look up their beliefs, it's far from what most people consider "Christian", at least the modern day version.
I'm not saying they don't do good in the world, not at all but they can get pretty weird.

Any belief system will eventually prompt this response. How seriously/literally the details should be taken exists along a spectrum from "lite" to, well, cult and is just as true for fraternal orgs as it is for religions, political movements, drug policy, fad diets, Crossfit, etc.

Replace "Christian" with "barbecue"/"chili"/"smoking" and you could be talking about a whole bunch of the debates here on SMF!

I'm a live-and-let-live kind of person and believe folks can hang out in whatever group/organization they like so long as they are not endangering the general public.

I've had the hint to join dropped on me a few times. I was told a long time that Catholics cannot be FM (and we drink more than them) :emoji_laughing:

See if you notice something in our City Plat.
