Do you of any good places to buy meat that’s not overly expensive?

Two good places - overly expensive depends upon your wallet! Many Sun City folk vouch for Butcher Bob's (https://www.butcherbobs.net/) at 11663 W Bell Rd, Surprise, AZ 85378. Their specialty is Angus Beef.

Wife approves Costco meats, and she prefers the 27th Ave location (Union Hills & I-17 area) over the Bell Road location - the employees seem to be much more friendly there.

Ha! True. I am just trying to be wise with money and save as well. I leave expensive cuts for special occasions. But I do try to find a good cut when it’s on sale and enjoy it with the family.

I gotta check out Butcher Bobs! Yeah, I do shop at Costco as well, and keep my eyes peeled for any specials on charcoal or that marked down brisket .. lol.. ah, the good ol days of finding a marked down Prime brisket at 2.49$ a lb… that and the 9.99$ 40lb kingsford charcoal at Home Depot…

Make a trip South East one day and take in the Pork Shop. It's so famous it's infamous! Bring a cooler and get your fill! While you're there, just around the corner is the Olive Mill. A little pricey but top notch quality AND a lot of specialized offerings. Skip the pizza for the week and spend the dough here. Make it on a Sunday maybe after church and take in the music they often have c in their park. There's olive tours and a very tasty restaurant.

Yup! That’s what I have been doing. Got the cards and wait for the sales. I purchase my limit, vacuum seal and store in the deep freezer.

Fry’s has some pretty good meat sales. Their ribeye sale starts tomorrow at 4 and some change.. going to definitely get limits on that

Yes, the bills have definitely been cheaper here!!

Yes! I stocked up during the labor day sale at fry’s.. 99cent a lb for chicken thighs.. haven seen that in quite some time!

When we moved to Queen Creek 9 years ago, the first place we were told to visit was "THE PORK SHOP".. It wasn't a disappointment.

Exactly how we shop.. Wait for the Fry's, Safeway & Bashes ads to come out on Wednesday. Do that loop to each store. I'm working on my 3rd Seal-A-Meal. Portion it out and freeze it. An occasional run to Sam's Club sometimes.

Let me wake up this old thread! Just joined the forums, intro'd myself in the Roll Call, and am about to post a BBQGuru UltraQ question.

We are up in Gila County (hence the handle) enjoying Rim Country for the last 20 years. The Valley of the Sun (actually, Face of the Sun) was home for 30 years, and we much prefer the cooler, lonlier, quieter, and less-populated part of Arizona at 6000'

One distinct disadvantage of rural life in Payson/Pine/Strawberry is food purchasing. Walmart, Bashas' and Safeway are the only choices, so we watch for the grocery stores' loss-leader sales, and buy then. Freezer is your friend! We hate going to the Valley, and being 90 miles from everywhere, means Prescott and Flagstaff can be good shopping choices. When we do have to go, we always look to stock up on meat.

Thanks for the tips on the butcher shops - we'll take a look when we're down that way...

I’m with you on the face of the Sun! I’m from Oregon and the heat during the summer here should be illegal! Haha

We plan to move north to the Camp Verde / Cottonwood area in the next 5 years or so.

You could try https://www.pierresprimebeef.com/ in Camp Verde. I've heard they are good, but a bit pricy for me. A little over an hour from Payson, but at least you wouldn't have to go into the Valley.
