Howdy Group,
Wanted to get into the roll call and say Hey to everyone !!
Wasn't sure if i was supposed to create a new thread to do it, but i couldn't find one that said 'All new people go here and put your info in".
My name is Rob, but you can call me RB. I live just outside Toronto, Ontario, Canada and have been a lifelong bbq'er.
My Dad used to bbq everything to well done, and as a kid i just wasn't a fan of char. So I quickly learned that in order to get me some medium rare, it would be up to me to do the work. "Here Dad, let me do the bbq'ing and you sit down and rest - can i get you another beer ?"
As to hardware, I'm still hanging onto my 16 year old Weber Genesis 3000 LP, even though we just got a brand new Napoleon - P 450 RSIBNSS in Natural gas. I am a HUGE fan of the Weber, and i hope the Napoleon is just as good.
I have done more than a couple of refurbs on the weber over time, and it was time to do another one this summer. But as a member of Direct Buy, they were offering a clearance of sorts on the Prestige 450's and i couldn't resist the price. Also, we moved into a new house last fall and it came with a natural gas line ( the previous owner left an old Flame Pro bbq hooked up to it ) He told me they used it to bbq corn on the cob while they did everything else on propane.
So, long story long, the weber is on its way out and we will move onto the Napoleon as soon as i get a gas guy in to switch the gas line. People have been telling me that LP burns hotter than NG and i will have to adjust cooking times to that.
Plus my weber smoker box thats fits perfectly over the flavour bars, will have no place in the new Prestige. But i will search the forums for replacement info.
I also entered the Smoking world last fall, by purchasing the cool Jim Beam Bradley 4 rack smoker - BTDS76JB. As a control freak, this one is perfect for me as there are digital controls for temp, time and smoke. I get exactly what i want every time - even if i'm not right. Plus it turns out to be pretty idiot proof - which also helps me when we get into double digit beer consumption.......
A couple of things i am here to research ( in no particular order ) are recipes / wood types / digital thermoters / Napoleon accesories.
Ok, so that's me. I look forward to meeting you all and learning and hopefully contributing a bit to this forum.
Happy Smoke Trails
