I have an electric smoker and I'm looking for a better way to keep the wood chips smoking longer rather than turning into charcoal in an hour or too. I read a bit about the amazn smoker. I don't under stand how it would work with a hot smoke. Would I set it on the burner? Would I leave the burner off but then how do you control temp? An anyone explain how this would work for a hot smoke in an electric smoker?

What brand smoker do you have?

If it's a Masterbuilt, the tray will sit on the bottom left side of the smoker.

It does not need heat to smoke, so you have to keep it away from the element, or the pellets will burn right up.

It's a cabellas smokehouse Pro 50, basically a PK 50. Small burner element in bottom center. So how do I keep the pellets from the burner?

Hi there and welcome!

I just looked at a youtube video on the Pro 50 and what I think would work best is for you to have everything in place like normal but no pellets in the smoker pan.

Going off how guys use the AMNPS inside their MES smokers, I believe you would then put the lit AMNPS on the bottom MEAT RACK to the LEFT side of the rack.  Yes this would take up a little space on the meet rack but would hopefully elevate it enough to where the heating element would not directly interfere with the pellets.

Also with the drip pan AND the empty cabelas wood chip bowl still in place, I hope that would also help keep the centered heating element from interfering with the pellets.

I hope this info helps and I hope it works out for you :)

From the photo, you'd place the A-MAZE-N Pellet Smoker (AMNPS) on the smoker floor to the left or to the right of the heating element. The AMNPS needs good air circulation to keep the pellets lit so you might also have to place the tray on an unused lower rack below where the meats are placed. No big deal because it looks like you have plenty of racks to choose from. But you never put anything on the burner.

I own a Masterbuilt 30" electric digital smoker and the AMNPS straddles two parallel rails at the bottom of the smoker to the left of the wood chip burner/heating element box. With wood pellets in the AMNPS, after you fill as many rows as you think you'll need, you light them first, using a torch of some kind or a gel firestarter. Some guys use heat guns. After the pellets have been burning for 20 minutes or so, you blow out the flame and then blow on the pellets to get what's called a bright red cherry. And then you place the AMNPS in the smoker. You can always add more pellets whenever you like. I typically will load a tray with more pellets than I need. Whatever isn't burned gets saved for the next smoke.
