I am wanting to install another thermometer on my vertical smoker, so that I can judge the temp at the bottom as well as the top.. I am open for recommendations!! Good smokes

Tel-tru seems to be pretty accurate. Of course a lot of folks just use digital probes, maverick etc.

Can I install that on the outside of my smoker? I am actually wanting to install another temp gauge in the door of the smoker?

Yes! If you check out Aaron Franklin's YouTube videos there is one where he is doing just that.

Nate, I personally like the River Country therms. They are as accurate as the Tel-tru, but a fraction of the price.

BTW, that was a good idea about getting more brine into the chicken after it was patchcocked with more open meat exposed. Thumbs Up

Joe thanks for the input on the Therms.. I will keep those in mind once I start shopping..

And I had done a spatcocked chicken last weekend and I opened it up before going in the brine.. I have done it both ways, but I felt the one I opened up was much better!!

I've been real happy with the 3" River Country (RC-T34CC) Adjustable w/4" stem. No problem reading needle at a good distance even with headlamp at night. Spot on out of the box in boiling water. For under $20 its a good deal. I have a DG widebody and the 4"stem gets you around half way to center of the rack.

Awesome, the DG wide body is what I have as well. I did my first long cook on it this weekend (2 picnics) and the smoker preformed flawlessly..

I just feel like I want to add another external therm!! Thanks for the advice and I will sure check out the one you recommend!!
