I have not changed my site so it must be #26. You guys help yourself to the site.
The wife and I are leaving for Africa on tues Dec 2nd to go climb Mt kilimanjaro and the serengenti for safari. We should summit the mountain at 19,341 ft on the 10th . while you guys are packing up bbq supplies. I Wish you guys the best and have a great time with the smart water. I will be looking for the pictures and im ready to join next year already.

Marc....y'all will be missed but that sounds like a vacation of a lifetime! Take a picture with your bbq shirt or something and post it along with the post-gathering pics!

Keith - Thanks for the travel recommendations, i still havent planned out my route. I'm a little nervous driving almost 5 hours with my smoker, older tires and no suspension but i'm planning to bring my trailer down anyway.

I've been on a cruise ship (last time i ever want to do that in my life) for a week and just getting caught up. Miranda and I have been going and going, this is the only free weekend to pack and plan for the gathering!

No worries, on the snack sticks and smokehouse, it's a long processes and i'm sure you want relax and enjoy more.

So this year we'll stick to a Rib competition (optional/friendly), IF anyone wants to do another "pork item", I think that should be OK as well. Any objections? the only reason i mention this is because we had talked (a couple years ago) about changing up the category to not just ribs. I'll post this on Thread #1.


i'm looking forward to some more time off and see my friends that i missed last year and meet new ones!

I plan to bring plasticware (i have a bunch). I'm also bringing two tables, canopy (for gathering site). If y'all think we need the big a-frame i might be able to fit that in as well.

Keith - are you bringing those wood planks for the fire pit? Do we need addiitonal firewood?

This is a new location for the gathering, for most of us, so i guess we'll figure out when we get there how/where we want to set up the gathering site (for Saturday's potluck and rib comp)

I'll be checking back on here daily until the gathering.

Yes, we will be missing Mark's plywood table .. If anybody else can carry an extra table...
I also have one (8') and maybe a second one... Will be bringing a double EZ UP and a single one, all for the Gathering site...

Yes... I will have some of the blocks (Just got a load Sat.)... I also made a burn barrel for the fire... "IF" fires are allowed.. I think we are in a burn ban but I will check since they are in a different county...

I work tomorrow and then on vacation till after the Gathering... WOOOHHOOOO
 
Just did a google search and it says that Hardee County is under a burn ban at the moment... We'll need a bunch of rain I'm thinking before it's lifted... We'll see ... We'll just put a grill over the barrel with a piece of meat and say it's out grill...

Looked at a folding table today but it will not fit in our mini Buick nor our apartment. I have nothing to contribute to a gathering area infrastructure.

Alachua County has been under a fire ban for the last couple weeks, there is rain expected tomorrow so hopefully that is state-wide and get more up until the gathering.

I'll take a blackberry to slowly sip on over the next year or so :)
 
besides the borgasmord on Saturday will there be a "group eat" on Friday night?
We're traveling light this year with only the WSM and Kettle. right now I have a slab of St Louis set aside as well as one of those hunky pork tenderloins which will get a good marinade. if a brisket point presents itself his weekend might also do burnt ends. definitely going to be a rotating smoker weekend with all my choices. I did see there is a Super Walmart a few miles east and south we will be passing on the way in, if there's any last minute gotchas.
 
Yeah, alachua is under a burn ban. We got a little bit of rain yesterday AM but not enough. pray for the rain!

i'm planing to make a lemon, butter green been dish for Friday. Still working out my plans for cooking saturday. Miranda and I will both have a rack of ribs for the competition on Saturday
 
So I've not heard anybody speak up and say they will take Mark's Discus39 Discus39 site yet... So I offered it to my neighbors and they said they will take it for Fri. and Sat. ... Let me know if somebody has already spoke up for it as I see there is only one site left available in the whole campground...

I am so looking forward to this... There is gonna be a shitload of people there... Might be biggest yet...

The offer is still open for the flavored smart water.. let me know...

I've got some serious bread baking to get done before and during the event. Not sure what my wife is planning.

Hardee County extended the burn ban today. Being in a county park me thinks the rangers will be zealots enforcing the ban to the letter.

Happy that someone can use Marc's vacated site.

Keith i believe i put deposit down for camp site #26 when I reserved it. There might be a balance due. Not sure of there rules for changing or whatever. I know you can figure it out. We are starting are 7 day hike up kilimanjaro today so I will not be available.
Hearing this will be the biggest gathering yet makes me sad that I cant be apart of it but as it's been getting smaller over the years it's nice to hear it's going to ge big.
If you need to get rid of any smart water keith I will take anything that's left over.
Everyone enjoy the weekend and have some great food .
