Thanx for the reply guys.I immediately replaced the pellets this time with oak/hickory/cherry blend and started to smoke again. I know some people cold smoke belly bacon in hot weather for 24 hours, so I think I'm good.I know it was cured properly but wasn't sure if the smoke was for more...
I had some pork belly cold smoking last night. I used pops' wet cure recipe, and the amazen tray smoker in my MB with no heat. So this morning, I go and check and looks like the tray only burnt thru a single half a row and extinguished. So not smoking for the last 8 hours. It's been hot around...
I have the WW and heavy smoke billowing out when first starting is normal for me as well. As long as the fire wasn't in the housing where the auger screw lives or in the pellet hopper, I wouldn't worry about it.
So after many years of faithful service I think my master built Gen 1 40" is on its way out. I've been thinking about getting a Camp Chef DLX or the new Windwood model. Any one here use either of Todd's pellet burners on these things? If so, where to place them?
Thanx,
Bobby
I have the gen 1 40" and didn't remove the chip loader. Works like a champ. Although, I experimented trying for better air flow when I first got the dust burner.I cut out a big ole hole in the side of the enclosure. This is where the smoke flows when using the mailbox.
As the other guys stated... corroded electric connectors in the rear panel.I had a similar issue last month. My 1st gen 40" wouldn't heat. I Unscrewed the rear access panel and one of the leads was all but gone. I stripped the wire and resoldered to the element. Good as new. Perhaps yours are...
Mailbox mod would take care of this issue. You'll never have to worry about nuking, air flow or drippings onto your AMNPS.
