This is the dilemma I had a while back, I needed to split wood for my woodstove and my smoking needs without paying thousands on a splitter. and not using a sledge and wedge. Sledge and wedge is alright for good nice dry rounds but smaller semi dry and weird shaped logs were not an option. So I...
Alot of people on here buy wood by the box for 20 or 40 dollars? Find some orchard and pay these kind of prices 175$ for a cord.
Come home split into chunks and have wood for a few years for smoking.
Just a thought if someone was in northern California...

Yes I seen the shaker idea and wanted bigger holes. With kingsford those holes on the shaker looked like they would clog up with ashes. With the expanded steel all ash goes to bottom. I will post a pic of the fire going it works real well, red hot coals and logs on top and red ashes on bottom...
You can make the box smaller if you like but I wanted a large size firebasket. the dimensions are 12" X 13" and 5 inches high. fits just right. Next I want to fabricate a more sturdy handle to roll it around. The shelf on the left side is too wobbly to hold and move it around, I will probably...
Just wanted to post my method of making a firebox for the char griller. At first I had some angle iron on the underside of the charcoal grate that chargriller came with and that worked fine but all the wood and coals would fall to the side so I had to make this. First the box, Really hated to...

Lee, I am watching this thread because I am in the exact same boat as you. I've seen and read alot about the char griller, WSM, and such and I also wanted to get a good 1/4" thick offset for a good price. I know the steel prices and have a welder but I want quality hinges and cuts and such. So...
Looks good to me. How much did you pick up your tank for? How thick is the firebox steel? thx, I am trying to price it all out to build my own myself. keep it up!
So you went to a metal shop and had those 1/4" plates for the manifold cut and bent? or do you have access to shears and brakes? I was just asking so I would know how much it would be to have those done. Also did someone else do the firebox door? That, to me would be the expensive one. thx...
