    Congrats on the WSM... i think your biggest problem with not holding heat is that you didn't start with enough fuel. Follow SmokinAl's advice and use the minion method. My new WSM was able to run rock steady for over 12 hours that way. Also fill the water pan up & you may not want to hang that...

    I cannot begin to say just how thrilled i am with the WSM !!!  Been using a Chargriller for 2 years, and the difference was night & day!!! The WSM ran over 12 hours on 1 load of fuel and i really didn't have to touch it... steady as she goes!!!

    Firing up my new WSM today for the 1st time! a little too much fuel at 1st, had to remove some coals & a chunk so it wouldn't be pushing on the water pan.

    Ordered my first WSM 18.5!

    I'm right there with you, my new WSM is getting fired up for the 1st time today. I'm only 1 hour into the smoke but the temp is holding great. Unlike my ole' Chargriller...
