It's what they call a half-mountainous region here, local Alps are literally down the road. Now is actually the nicest time of year (we're getting summer at last). Plus now, my garden has grass again in the meantime :emoji_sunglasses:

So I took another look at the FB calcs, this is what I have based on the volume above the ash tray Length at 17" equals the diameter of the CC, height is 15 1/4 plus ashtray (18" total) depth of 14", which gives 3601" cubic. I think this is right, according to your diagram and calcs above.

Thanks so much for this, it's really appreciated! Also the elegant solution to the weight balancing question. I already went on a recon run today to spec the chimney, 80 and 120mm so far, but i'll find a 4" (100mm). As I mentioned it's unfortunately pretty difficult to buy steel sheets around...

Thanks, yeah I had thought about that. Like the old Porsche 911s....the pendulums :-) Potentially thinking of moving the FB side legs out, or adding some other reinforcement there to make it a bit more balanced from a footing perspective. To balance the weight out though I could add another...

Struggling a little on the FB/CC half-moon (OK it's past midnight here, so that could be a factor). Do you think, when you've got a second, you could post an update of that great pic, you sent a few days back? Thanks.

Thanks, yeah i'll recheck the FB/CC area. Good call on the ash tray, great idea. Hope I can figure it out on the calculator. Also tell your co-worker, he's got great taste. That photo was taken up in Wengen, we spent a week up there too this summer. This is the valley, near the Jungfraujoch...

So I spent some time today with my buddy who will be helping with the fabrication. Looking at what we'd need to do to the FB to get it the way i'd like it, we figure it's probably better/easier to just fab a new one, a rectangular one with end door. So i'm going to have some more flexibility...

Thanks so much, this really does help. Thanks, yes it really does and also it shows that some of my ideas aren't completely crazy :-) Spoke to a friend who's a machinist today (and build some really sweet custom motorbikes for a living) and he's going to help me with this. Plan's worked out...

Project is now continuing as the weather is good again for a few days. A quick Q on your diagram. 4.75" would be the total height of the opening then? (where it says 4.5" currently) I'm not sure how to calculate the RF plate width at 4.75" is this diameter also on your diagram somewhere. Last...

I wish I had a reverse, but it's not available here, so I need to work from a OKJ Highalnd standard, as a base. Yep. I'm going for a 1/4" fixed RF plate, with a lip at the end and a drain, so it becomes by catch tray. I'll also be dumping the existing stack and going to 4" diameter at around...

Yeah i'm wondering if i just put in a simple vent on the top of bottom, to keep that flexibility.

Thanks so much, this really helps. Weather here has turned really bad again (we had a Florida grade tropic storm yesterday, never seen that before here). So i'll need to pick this up again once it's a bit better.

Thanks. So I started to put some of this on paper, to be a little better organised. Working/evolving diagram below It reflects the correct half-moon arcs as in your diagram above. A question on that, the diameter for the total opening size remains 36.9", so I guess the height becomes 2.25"...

Just one thing on the half-moon. If i'm getting this right; area remains the same as before at 36.86" (1.3 of calcs). diameter entered (1.3 of calcs) 11" gives me a 4.4" height from the top of the FB/bottom of the CC. It's in the chart below: Does that sound about right? Thanks.

I've been there, it's a really quaint village on lake Constance. That's about 50 miles away from me. Switzerland is indeed a small country, but has a lot to offer.

Thanks. FB drop it is then. By flange, you mean a plate extending from the FB/CC inlet into the CC? (on the CC side of course). I thought about doing that, basically a fixed plate below the RF plate, from edge to edge (from to back and against the inlet) to form a seal and heat channel. I would...

Thanks yeah, we live in a half-mountainous region, pretty close to a major lake but also a stones throw away the Alps and great skiing. Warm in the summers, great snow in winters. Life is good here. This is a mountain maybe 20 minutes from my house, where we went walking in the autumn

I hear you, and thanks for that. Just trying to get as much as I can right from the start to save myself time later. Calcs being a good indicator, but not everything. I understand that. Talking will stop soon, and the real work will begin :emoji_sunglasses: But first just a couple of other...

Thanks so much for the help! It's really appreciated. So just to recap. - Blanking plate on the top of the FB to CC input, then if flow restricted potentially opening further to the sides as required. If I add 30% to the volume (28.35" vol from the calculator, plus 30% = 36.86"), it would...
