Sounds like a good plan to me. I’m guessing you chose peanut oil for the high smoke point? I have gone a different direction for my projects. I use flax oil for the low smoke point. I know I am able to convert it all to a good coat. If you have challenges with the peanut oil, this may be another...
Amazing looking meal. Thanks for the picture showing the Santa Maria in action. I recently got one and have been enjoying getting back to cooking over open fire. I have not been preheating the wood. I do on my offset, but hadn’t thought about it on the Santa Maria. Now I will.
The drawings get the job done. There are design calculators that can help get the proportions close, meaning firebox size, cook chamber size, openings, etc, but your question really deals with how the opening between the firebox and cook chamber is designed. So I look at the goal-I want even...
We have horses, so they bring in the biting flies. We have all sorts of sprays and traps that kill lots of them, but ultimately I wait for cold weather so they all go back to Hell for the winter.

Welcome from Colorado. If you can find a used smoker in your area that has enough steel to be welded together (1/4”+) at a good price, buy it as a start. Your friend that can weld, can help with modifications to get it close to what you want. A number of folks looking for the ‘set it and forget...
Welcome from Colorado. The pork butt is a great choice. The search feature on this site is great, so you can likely find someone who has used your Primos grill to do a butt or whatever else sounds good. If you don’t find the detail you need, just ask. Lots of options on the details. Good luck.
I just finished up an update to my shop space.
I got the welder back out and did a few horse shoe projects for a fund raiser.
I am looking forward to cooler weather so I can spend more time in the shop.
So glad to hear you were able to get everyone back safely. The important thing now is that your mom is being loved and cared for. The other portion of the family that was responsible for the terrible conditions, God sorts that out, so don’t waste your time on it.
Last update! Finished up this morning. Looking forward to seeing how she cooks. Thanks to Lyfe Tyme for their help.
Before and after shots
Now we just need to get her moved in.
