Which size Weber Smokey Mountain would be best? 18 or 22?

Need the 22 to fit a full packer brisket without having to cut it in half. That's why I went with the big one. I do put water in my pan. But I got an aluminum plate that goes on top of it and I cover that with foil which makes clean up easy.

Thanks! I also need to check on the midsized 800 model to see if I can on that as well.

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

Any chance you could measure the bottom grill grate? I'm curious of the dimensions on these to see if I can fit a full size packer brisket. Thanks!

    Need a verticle meat smoker

I had a pit barrel cooker and sold it. Felt too limited. I got a 22" WSM and i'm much happier with that. I went with the larger model as I want to fit a full packer brisket.

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

Correct. Not the surface area. The actual dimensions of the cooking area.

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

That's the dimensions of the smoker itself. Not the cooking surface which is what I'm after.

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

    No. That's it.

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

Of course. But that's not dimensions, just surface area. I want to know the X/Y dimensions.

    Masterbuilt Gravity Feed

smaller size. Lower price. Now they have 3 sizes to offer in their gravity feed series. I just wish they listed the actual dimensions of the cooking surface.

    Your Favorite Pellets?

Whatever is cheapest. I've used hundreds, if not thousdands of pounds of pellets for many many years and haven't found much of a difference honestly. I use bear mountain a lot as they're $9.99/20lb(that's regular, not sale price) and they review well and I don't have to drive far to get them...

Pellet grill (Traeger) = less smoke flavor?

Mine stays in the garage. It has never, in 8 years, had so much as a drop of rain on it. I just leave it at the front of the garage and open the door and smoke away. The garage has an overhang as well so I can push it in the driveway a bit and it stays dry. I have other options for searing...

Pellet grill (Traeger) = less smoke flavor?

IF one wants those accessories, yes. But not everyone needs or wants those so best to leave those out and the individual can decide what they need. I don't need a cover or shelf or sear zone. I only care about the base price. I'd put rec-tec, green mountain, pit boss and traeger (except...

Pellet grill (Traeger) = less smoke flavor?

There are maks, yoders and fast eddies starting $1600/$1800+. But yeah, they are certainly pricey. And you're right about the accessories. I'm in the market for an upgrade myself.

Pellet grill (Traeger) = less smoke flavor?

Of course. They all have the same basic components. But all but rectec created their own designs. Whereas rectec literally took the traeger barrel and put the hopper on the back. Kept the same chimney and cover on it. Same firepot. Same controller on their first model. Same grates, drip pan...

Pellet grill (Traeger) = less smoke flavor?

Cadillac? oh no not at all. Midrange at best. The cadillac I would say is a Mak. Yoder is certainly up there. Memphis grills. If anything Traegers quality has gone up with the ironwood and timberline. The timberline especially puts them at a level they haven't been at. Though for years there...

Pellet grill (Traeger) = less smoke flavor?

How's it superior? Their first model was a direct copy. You can't look at it and say it's not. They probably got the barrel form the same manufacturer. Same materials and all. Just with the hopper on the back. They've made some tweaks since then with materials but the shape and dimensions are...

Pellet grill (Traeger) = less smoke flavor?

Lol. Yeah, I know. But that's what they started with. You can still see the traeger barrels in their design today.

Traeger texas vs Timberline in the smoke department

I have a traeger texas elite now. I guess i've had it for about 8 years. I'm looking at the Timberline and it's new design and settings and it seems as if it would produce more of a smoke flavor in the food. Had anyone had a texas or lil tex and moved to a timberline that can compare?
