Ok, I've done some work and and a bunch of testing and I think I've pretty much got it figured out.
We sealed around the CC door some more and that didn't seem to make much difference.
I also tried the foil idea that was earlier in this thread, along with replacing the foil with and actual...
I'm just adding a link to another thread of mine that explains some of the things I did wrong and how I fixed them.

Well I've learned a lot here, so we'll do some testing and likely some remodeling, and see how things turn out.
Still open for some more ideas if anyone has any!
@daveomak I guess I missed a question in your previous post.
The CC door does not quite seal. It had a lot of spring in it when it was cut and I couldn't get it pulled back down all the way. Once the draft gets going there is only an occasional curl of smoke from the bottom.
I'm trying to...
We tested at a range of temps, mostly in the 230 - 270 average range. We brought it up to about 260 avg, let it set for about an hour, then cooled it down to about 240 avg for an hour. after that we heated up to about 450 for an hour to set the paint on the cook chamber, then cooled it back down...
I do have 20% of my vents on the top of the firebox, but could easily add more. I did get thinking, that partly it could be we had too big of a fire going.
I'm not giving up yet! I think we can get it working if we put a little time into it. One thing I do know is that when it's burning it...
my brother and I just finished our first reverse flow build, and had a small issue while burning it out the first time.
We couldn't get even temps across the grates. It was running 25 - 50 degrees difference from end to end. Ill add some pics so you can see how it's built.
Any ideas...
Im from Gratiot county. I've never really developed a taste for vinegar sauce, it's not bad, but just don't really love it. I might have to work on changing that!
Ok, finally got a pic of the tank. We had time so got to work on it. Hope we aren't doing things to terribly wrong!
Got the door made, and my brother is working on the firebox. Hope to work on the baffle some this evening. We still need to figure something out for the cooking grates.
On a side...
Ok I did some drawing and calculating this morning, and this is what I came up with. the drawing is not all to scale. If any of my calculations are incorrect please let me know!
Ill try to get a pic of the tank sometime today.
Ya, we'd love to do a bit bigger, but scrap tanks are nearly impossible to find here. And the ones we do find are usually a couple hundred bucks. We're thinking of doing this one and then see what we did wrong, and maybe build a bigger one sometime in the future. We don't usually smoke for huge...
Hi, My brother and I are wanting to build a small smoker. We have and old 60 gal air compressor tank that we can use, a farm shop with all the tools, access to whatever materials we want for reasonable price, and both can weld.
We need some tips though. We're thinking of doing a reverse flow...
Hi. I'm new to the whole smoking situation, but I'm wanting to get started. I raise hogs, on a large scale, so have access to plenty of pork. Just wanting to learn and build my own smokers.
