Yes! However, I don't think she has used either of them apart from she and I going through the assembly/disassembly process together.
One thing I noticed that was different with her grinder and the assembly video is the plastic ring at the back of the auger. It is supposed to be at the back of...
I found a few Promo codes, but they were all expired. Thank you for the code above though. That is the same code LEM sent me after I placed my order. Although, I didn't utilize that code to make the order, I poked around in the IT dept and someone magically got me 15% off. Helpful bunch they can...
@forktender : You ever consider grinding your own Masa flour?
Apart from the grinder/stuffer I'm gifting my niece, I am also buying her a grain grinder. I'm getting the Komo mill grinder since it seems to be the best available on the market. I foresee her using it to grind different varieties...
@bregent : I definitely did look into that attachment, but ultimately decided against it. The reason is a lot of multipurpose tools I seen do different jobs poorly and the consumer is better off in the end by going with a dedicated tool designed specifically for the task at hand.
In this case...
Perfect, because that is almost the exact table that she has, except her tables folds in half in the middle.
I think those may be too big, but she can probably make due with baking pans and random pots she has.
When cleaning the grinder, will she require something to protect her hands from...
Where in northern California? I went to school in Monterey for a bit, but didn't notice a ton of places in my area.
Do you know where those mortar and pestles are made? Thank you for the offer, but I live in Hawaii and something that heavy would demand exorbitant shipping rates, I'm sure.
You know, I don't think any of us ever eat any kind of jerky. Nothing against it, but I thought about that when I read your suggestion and I don't think we've had jerky in many many years. I think I'll just go with the manual stuffer. Thank you nonetheless.
Thank you for sharing this post! I absolutely love very complicated, time-consuming traditional recipes!
A few questions:
- Any particular reason for the cast iron pot instead of ECI when making the sauce?
- What type of food mill is that? I'm looking to get a new one and was thinking about...
Ok, then I will just buy her all of the plates I listed above, but just stick with the blade that comes with the grinder. I think that is what you're suggesting since the additional blades I purchase will all be intended for single blade grinders and not the double grind grinder I will buy.
No...
Regarding the knife and blade combo, I have a few questions.
1.
The #8 dual grind grinder comes with four plates (first pass grinding, second pass grinding, stuffing, coarse 3/8) and one knife. So, I buy three extra knives for each plate? Or actually, I don't think I need a blade for the...
@old sarge : Do you recommend any of the accessories on this page?
https://pleasanthillgrain.com/lem-779-big-bite-meat-grinder-8#accessories
I would like her to be able to make sausage, prosciutto, or any other type of meat, but I'm not sure if I should get the LEM accessories or get these...
I think I finally have the ok to buy more stuff for my niece. I bought her a ton of cookware a few years back and she has been doing well with most of it (hasn't even opened the box to the Kitchenaid Pro stand mixer though sadly).
Now, I'd like to get her a meat grinder and anything else...

^ I saw the above links on a friend's website and I was thinking this would make yet another good gift for my niece. But I was unsure...
@SonnyE - Yes, unfortunately that is living in Hawai'i but that is an entirely separate thread for a different forum. We have to make do with what is available to us.
@SonnyE - Interesting idea but I don't think she would go for that unfortunately. It's ok though, I've made a little change and settled on the Smokey Jumbo and Smokey Mountain as I mentioned above.
@lemans - I'm not sure if you saw above, but I've decided against the Primo. After further...
@RiversideSm0ker - The Smokey Mountain would satisfy this area as far as I have been researching. The issue is something for the higher temperature cooking.
She does not have a balcony and there is no BBQ area for residents. We do have propane here but yes, it is pricey.
What she will do is take the grill to the beach and grill there. She can also take the grill on base and use the picnic area there as well. They do have public grills on base but...
@SonnyE - Thank you for the comment.
My niece will live in a very small studio probably under 200 sq ft (this is Hawai'i after all). Are there any grills you recommend particularly? From your post, would you recommend perhaps a small Weber Smokey Joe and a smokey mountain?
I would still like...
