Looks like you're on the right path if you used the calculator. I would not use 1/8" steel. That's the thin stuff the big box stores sell and it won't last as long or hold the heat as well. If you're going to spend the time and money building it you might as well make it last with 3/16" or even...
Thought I'd post a pic of the build so far. Almost got it done. Still need to add the spring to the handle and weld on the back. I got a little creative and added a slide out ash tray to it.
