Boston Butt Pulled Pork (Step by Step)

Hi and welcome! You’ve come to he right place, plenty of helpful and knowledgeable members here. I generally do not spritz mine, or use a water pan. They have always turned out very juicy never dry. I am also in the group that does not foil the butt. Seems to get a better bark for our...

    Butts and Brisket and Breakfast

Looks absolutely delicious! I’ve never added a stick of butter to a pork butt. Did you add that then wrap? I typically don’t wrap mine, however that does look interesting. Can you taste the difference adding that to it? Thanks!

    Fresh Strawberry Pie ~ Foamheart

Hey foamheart, I tried to make this yesterday.....Failed. Can you shed some light on what may have gone wrong? 1). You listed 2-3lbs of strawberries, how can you fit that into a 9” crust? I packed it with about 2lbs and it was over flowing. 2). When I put the ingredients into the saucepan it...

Double Smoked Ham & Smoked Turkey Club Sandwich (Bear Style)

Hey Bear, Stumbled on this thread after searching other recipes. (like always - haha) I have to ask though.....No cheese? In my best Chris Carter voice.."C'mon man." :emoji_grinning: A nice sharp cheddar or swiss would really set that off. Looks good though. We enjoy making those every so...

First smoking in my new Gen 1 MES 40.

I’ve smoked a lot of butts on my MES30. I prefer to not foil at all. I like the bark better. I tend to cook at around 225-235ish, applying smoke for about the first 6 hours. I’m pretty basic, I use Jeff’s rub and let it cook. I’ll pull it out at 205 then let it rest for at least an hour. I...

Boston Butt Pulled Pork (Step by Step)

I’ve been using SoFlaQuer’s finishing sauce for the last couple of years. It is fantastic. I’ve never been a vinegar fan, but I’m telling ya you’ll never even notice it with this finishing sauce. After I let the pork rest for 1.5-2 hours I’ll mix this in while I’m shredding. I pretty much add...

STORY THREAD - Using Leftover Smoked Butt (PICS Please)

We will use pulled pork leftovers in a hybrid Cuban crispy pork/Vaca Frita. Take the pork and throw it into a skillet with olive oil, onions and sweet peppers. Cook the pork until crispy. Feel free to include pepper or garlic, etc “as needed”. When just about ready squeeze some fresh lime...

BD's Pre Holiday Smoked Turkey. A Foamheart Request

Hey bdskelly, thanks for the recipe idea. I'm going to try my first whole bird for the family this year and plan on using it with my MES. I even ordered the BBQ bird booster. Hopefully it all works out - fingers crossed! After doing some reading here I'm a bit concerned about the turkey I...

Halved a 8.5 lb boneless butt, how long am I looking at in the MES?

What temp did you smoke at? You timed about 1hr lb. What do you think could have been better? Was it the taste, texture, or..? What wood did you use and how long did you apply the smoke? I'll be honest, it seems like my pork has come out better tasting using Jeff's rub, maybe consider trying...

    Pulled Pork

I've used homemade and commercial. I have been using Jeff's rub for the last few and it has worked out great. I recommend it for sure. Take it easy. -

    Pulled Pork

i haven't used foil on my last 3 Boston butts during the cook. I do wrap in foil and a towel for at least an hour after I reach the 203-205 range. (In a cooler) I tend to cook low and slow also. 225 range. Not for any particular reason, just have had good luck this way. I smoked a 12.5lb one...

Halved a 8.5 lb boneless butt, how long am I looking at in the MES?

I have found with my MES 30 that pork butt takes about 1.5-2hr per pound.  It tends to lean toward the 2hr per. Your cooking time will be determined by the singular weight.  If you are 4.5 to 5lb then plan on anywhere from 7-10hr total cook time. When they reach 200-205 degrees pull them out...

Boston Butt Pulled Pork (Step by Step)

Hey Jetsknicks1 - Yeah I have found the bark to be better without any foil.  And I planned out my timing based on the previous smokes - this allowed me not to rush at all. Thanks again! -

    First Boston Butt attempt

I'm a relative newbie as well with regards to smoking on an MES.  So far I've done 4 Boston butts and they have all turned out great. (thanks to the help on these boards) Noboundaries is spot on recommending that thread, great info right there. Figure on about 2 hours per lb at around 225...

Boston Butt Pulled Pork (Step by Step)

Well, I started my smoke last Friday night at 9. Stayed up until 2, went to bed with the remote thermometer on the nightstand. I figured that if my MES had a problem (fire? Thanks Bear - haha) the alarm would go off. I ran at 225 until it seemed like they were in a stall at 176 and 190,about...
