I checked out the MES using my new Maverick 732. I set the smoker at 150°, 225°, and 275°. The Maverick read about 10° higher than the smoker readout, so it's not as far off as I suspected. I had also suspected the actual temp was lower than the readout on the smoker, but it turns out it's...
No particular reason. I'm not sure how much more smoky they would have tasted with one more load of chips. Three hours of smoke left them plenty smoky, definitely not "mild".
I ordered a Maverick 732 last Saturday. Received an email saying it was shipped on Monday, and it was delivered yesterday, Wednesday. Can't beat that. Plus the 20% off promo came at just the right time! Today I did the boiling water test and both probes were right on. I'll check the smoker temp...
Both. All three... temp displayed on smoker, temp on thermometer, and temp on meat probe... were all different, and the differences seemed to vary. Having to open the smoker to read the thermometer inside made it too hard to get an accurate, or at least fairly accurate, difference in them. I've...
I switched out the control units today and tested the temp. I compared the temp reading on the control unit against the temp on the built-in meat probe and on the oven thermometer. They were all over the place! One thing I came away with is that I need to get a good thermometer that I can run...
Masterbuilt 30" digital electric. I just got it last week, and I've made some great BBQ in it, but it doesn't get up to the set temp. The actual temp inside is at least 15° lower. I called customer service about it and was told it's probably a faulty control unit and they are shipping me a new...
Check the temp inside the smoker with an accurate thermometer against what the smoker temp is set at before using. If it's off, you can add/subtract when setting the temp to make up for the difference. Mine is off by a good 15°.
The CSRs were so good the other day, I decided to try a whole chicken. It was just over 5 lbs. I brined it for about 4 hours in a simple salt/sugar brine, took it out of the brine and let it set in the fridge overnight, spatchcocked it, then wiped it with olive oil and added some rub. Once the...
I called Masterbuilt this morning. Great customer service. I explained the problem and she said it's more than likely a malfunction in the control unit, a new one would be shipped out tomorrow and I should have it within 5 days. I know these smokers aren't going to be exact when it comes to...
Thanks Eric. I'm not even close to throwing in the towel! They tasted too good! I Just finished checking the smoker temp with an oven thermometer. The reading on the thermometer was 15° lower than what the smoker read. I set the smoker at 275 and the thermometer read 260. I've checked my oven...
I'm a new MES smoker also, but after a lot of research, it seems the majority say not to use any liquid in the water pan. I smoked some country style ribs the other day, nothing but foil in the water pan, and they turned out great.
I used my MES 30 for the first time yesterday. I bought a 3-pack of big boneless country style ribs. I've always loved grilling them, and figured it would be a good choice for my first session with my new smoker. After rubbing them with a little mustard and a generous amount of Famous Dave's Rib...
