Thinking of getting a Big Poppa build.

I recently put together a drum smoker using a kit from Big Poppa. I bought a new unlined barrel locally and bought the kit from Big Poppa that had the ash catcher with it. All you need is a drill and a screwdriver and an adjustable wrench. Just take your time marking the holes with the templates...

    Breaking in new smoker

I didn't even think about taking any pictures of the finished product until it was too late. I took it off the smoker about 7:15pm and then I wrapped it in foil and put it in a cooler to rest for about 45 minutes or so, then I pulled and chopped it some. I was real pleased how it turned out. It...

    Mustard on pork butt?

Hey, thanks for all the replies. I think I'm going to try it next time. I can't wait until I have a few days off to try smoking something different. Maybe try my hand at some ribs or chicken. Looks like I may have another hobby since I got a smoker!

    Mustard on pork butt?

I know some people put mustard on their pork butts before putting a rub on it. My question is it just for a binder to make the rub stick? Does it add or take away from the flavor of the meat? Does it help with the bark or help keep the meat moist? I would like to hear from people who have done...

    New uds build

I was wondering the same thing. I just purchased a new barrel and was thinking about getting the Big Poppa kit. I have read that it takes all the guess work out. Hopefully someone who has built one on their own recently will chime in.

    New from Western N.C.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! My butt turned out OK. There were no complaints from the family. Everyone seemed to like it. I would like to try smoking some ribs next time. I think the sauce I made would really go good on them.

I tried to go all the way without.foil but I was running out of time I had it on for about 12 and half hours. The temp was at 181, so I have it wrapped in foil and in the oven now.
