What's your favorite type of smoker and why?

This is pretty subjective.  It all depends on what type of smoking you do (and what your fuel preference might be).  The big thing is do your homework, decide what you think will work best for your needs.  (Do some "what if" thinking if you think there are some areas you might like to try).  Go...

A complimentary addition to the Travelin' Smoker (aka "The Legend")--pic heavy

Well, if you can't have a smoker like this one, maybe you're getting lumps of coal in your stocking.  You would have fuel for your next smoke.  This Christmas, set out ribs and beer instead of cookies and milk.  That's been know to change Santa's mind about these things........

A complimentary addition to the Travelin' Smoker (aka "The Legend")--pic heavy

Thanks, Steve.  After using it on the maiden run, there is a learning curve.  I had the air inlets open too much which exaggerated the hot/cold spots within the grill.  It's definitely not the same as using my charcoal grill.  I cooked burgers (with JD Steak seasoning), boneless pork loin chops...

A complimentary addition to the Travelin' Smoker (aka "The Legend")--pic heavy

http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/22792150 Above is the link to the entire album devoted to my brother's smoker trailer.  Last week he made an addition to compliment the smoker.  It is a two-burner propane grill.  This allows him some flexibility to what he is able to serve and do when...

Mother's Day will be here before you know it.....

I'm sorry, I thought I uploaded this picture on the previous post. *photo credit to:  www.instructables.com* Bacon Roses just might get you a little honey from your sugar...... If not, you can eat them yourself!

Mother's Day will be here before you know it.....

Maybe some roses are in order!  I think this idea could easily be adapted to the smoking community. http://www.instructables.com/id/Bacon-Roses/?ALLSTEPS What CAN'T one do with bacon??

What are you having for lunch?

I'm having my homemade chicken noodle soup (didn't make the noodles this time, sorry) with Stonebriar's IronWill smoked pepperjack crumbled in for that extra yum factor..... It's a nice way to chase away the chill of a sub-freezing morning!

    Smoke Proof Smoker Door

The strapping is rather thin, so it molds to the door's form easily.  IIRC, he put a temporary handle on the door and welded a piece of angle iron on the bottom of the door to keep it flush (perhaps just a little below flush) with the smoker body.  He then welded the top strap in place, fitting...

    Smoke Proof Smoker Door

Here are two pics of how my brother did it on the "Legend".  It works very well.  If you notice, they are only tacked in several places and don't have a solid weld.  A solid weld might cause warpage.  It is important that the doors are fitted properly before the strapping is welded together. ...

    Smoke Proof Smoker Door

It's as much  about having the proper tools and techniques to do the work as it is finding a "trick".  Use thick 3/16" to 3/8", quality metal to keep warping to a minimumUse the least amount of heat you need to make your cuts.  Plasma cutters use the least, well-tuned torches next, cutting...

Where's all the SMF Bikers at?

I suffer from MBD (Multiple Bike Disorder).  Currently, I have only two bikes in the garage.  A 2001 Kawasaki Voyager 1200 and a 1999 Honda CB250 Nighthawk (pictured here with a sold 2006 Vespa GTS 250). Two favorites I wish I had back are: A 1992 Honda CB750 Nighthawk the wife made me...

Need help from a Horizon owner

This is what I'm using right now.  It actually was built by my brother and belongs to him.  It is what we call a "down draft" design.  On the smoker this size, we put the firebox in the middle to keep temps as even as possible.  The fire box is inline to transfer as much heat as possible to...

Need help from a Horizon owner

In my experience, Horizon's QC is pretty good.  I'm not sure if this was just a bad one that got through or has had something happen to it after it left the production floor.  It's a long way from OK to TN.  There are usually a few neanderthals that mess with floor models looking for "fire".  I...

    New Smoke Hollow Temp Help.

I'm guessing when you switched tanks, you might have jostled the safety valve that shuts the tank off when it falls over.  I've dropped them to the ground too hard and done this.  I'd get just enough gas to light the burner, but not get anything out of them.  I would have to turn the main tank...

A cure for what ails you...

I was feeling a bit under the weather this morning.  Not wanting much for breakfast, I broke into a care package given to me by Stonebriar.  My IronWill smoked almonds and sharp cheddar on a Triscuit wafer really hit the spot.  "Thank You" for your taste of the wild, Steve! **Sorry to those...
