    Academy store

Academy sometimes has good sales on lump charcoal, good selection of rubs and bbq accessories, and W Sauce about 25% cheaper than anywhere else around.

    ❤️ 🇺🇸 Memorial Day 🇺🇸 ❤️

Thankful for the sacrifices that maintain our freedom. I'll have to try a dog you're way. Also a simple cook: jalapeño & sweet pepper poppers and pork loin chops smoked, then seared to finish. The chops were very good.

Dinner Night-Grilled Pork Tenderloin, sweet corn, and Zucchini

Good looking meal. We had similar tonight. Grilled lemon garlic tenderloin on weber served with roasted carrots, asparagus, and zucchini. No wine, but I had an IPA during the basketball game.

    Pork Leftovers

That looks good. I like to use leftover pulled pork, smoked, to make tacos or something kinda like carnitas. Sautéed onions, jalapeños, and garlic in cast iron skillet then add the pork on medium high until some bark on the bottom.

    Any other SMF Bourbon/Whiskey "enthusiasts"?

By no means a connoisseur, but this was gifted to me along with another that is single barrel. One of my inexpensive favorites is Sexton Irish Single Malt.

    Pulled pork questions

No pics, but the pork turned out amazing. I stayed somewhat with what I've done before. Both butts were about 7.5 lbs after some trimming. Both seasoned and placed siide by side on the smoker. One reached 172 at 4 a.m. and I just wrapped and put back on. The other reaches 170 at 6 a.m. placed...

    Pulled pork questions

Many years ago I just bought 2 lb pork roast. They always came out great. After some trim these butts will be about 7.5 lbs each. They are boneless, so I tied them to attempt to make them proportional.

    Pulled pork questions

20 committed. I expect another 5-10 to show up. 8 are bringing a side & 5 bringing dessert. There will also be baloney and kielbasa. Should be plenty. I'm kind of a night owl so I think ill put them on about about 10 p.m. and set my alarm for a couple of checks, just in case. Ill wrap at...

    Pulled pork questions

Smoking frequently again has led me asking a lot of questions. I committed to feeding pulled pork to about 25 people for lunch tomorrow. My wife picked up a shoulder at Sam's that is about 15 lbs. Appears to be a single not 2. The wind is terrible today, so I thought about doing an overnight...

    Texas Twinkies

Inspiration Pulled pork rather than brisket in the jalapeños. Remaining cheese mix and cream cheese. My wife really likes smoked cream cheese.

    Anybody used pear wood

I'll definitely try some of the pear. I have enough to last a lifetime. Especially since my new smoker is charcoal. Has me thinking I may need another offset because I have access to so much free wood. Pecan, oak, cherry, and just spotted a large mulberry tree on my property. Years ago I had...

    Anybody used pear wood

Not sure how old this tree is, but in the 25 years we've lived here it has done the same. Hundreds of small pears that dry up and fall. The wasps love them. I assume that a good trimming might solve the problem, but the tree is so large I don't want to take it on, nor can I reach anything in the...

    Anybody used pear wood

It's definitely fruit bearing, but the pears are small and not very desirable. The tree is so large it shades two pear trees that make the best pears I've ever eaten. These pears are better when they get some sun. I just have to get them before the raccoons and of course the deer get the low...

    Anybody used pear wood

Found this old thread searching the same question about pear wood. I have a huge pear tree that I'd like to take down. I wonder if it has some commercial value as smoking wood?
