Back here for an update... The hinges are installed so that the doors are removable.
I've been playing around with different methods and I'm beginning to lean away from water. With water in my pan (2-3 gallons), I cant get the temp above 200. I suspect the cooling effect from water evaporating...
Sorry for the delayed response, finally back here for an update...
Sonny - My friend asked me to build him a vertical insulated reverse flow smoker, and I figured I'd do one for myself while I'm at it. I'm not sure what they weigh, my guess is 400 lbs each?
I've been playing around with...
Thanks for the compliments everyone. I fired up the smoker today again with the intent of just another practice run and the smoker got up to operating temp within about an hour with any water.only filled the charcoal basket about 1/2-3/4 full and it held steady temp for a solid 5 hrs with only...

Here are some photos of my build, in case some of you would like to see how the smoker is built.
Decided to do some spare ribs and leg quarters for my first smoke and got started at about 7:30 yesterday morning. I filled my water pan with about 3-4 gallons (i now realize this was probably way too much water). I preheated the smoker with a torch until I felt the temps were up to around 200...
I finally got around to finishing things up. Got it cranked up yesterday and I'm pleased with the way it performed. It took a LONG time to achieve 225, a few hours, so I think I will need to get a weed burner to help out. Other than that, she cruises right along with almost no input from me. I...
Thanks gnatboy. I’m not a welder by any means but I did take my time with the layout and fabrication. Although I did put in lots of time and effort I give most of the credit to others who have done similar builds to this.
The seals have not came in yet but hopefully they will be here in time...
Thanks for the comments. I am a bit nervous to see how it manages temperatures.
The door seals should come in Monday so I will have the doors welded on soon. Haven’t quite decided if I should weld the hinges to allow the doors to be removed or weld them fixed. I’m leaning towards removable but...
I was able to get pictures uploaded and attached a link in a build thread. It’s located in the reverse flow area, check it out please, I’m anxious for some feedback:)
I'm in Gonzales, just south of Baton Rouge. I thought I had the pictures figured out, I was able to post a link to flickr but now its gone as if someone deleted it. I will try again.
Guys, I am having trouble inserting pictures using the "upload a file" button. Do I have to use a site like photobucket or image shack to get pictures into the post?
Hello Everyone, new member here from Louisiana. I wanted to join the forum to share a build I have been working on for a few months now. I have observed several other builds on this site (and others) which gave me both inspiration and ideas for my own build.
About the builds...
I am building...
Hi Everyone. I am new to the forum and felt it would be proper to introduce myself. There's a lot that I don't know about smoking so I felt it would be a good idea to join to learn, with the hopes of contributing to others eventually. I have tried a few small smokes on a weber kettle and decided...
