Yeah I know they aren't accurate at all. I figured out that it's about 15-20 degrees from what they say vs what the temp actually is (ambient temp).
At first I just thought it was blasphemy to separate the two but the more I think about it and the more I see people who mention doing it, I...
I finally pulled it at 201-point and 208-flat. Edges of the flat were tough, but middle was still probe tender. Point was mostly probe tender but one side of it still had some resistance. For just me I think I'll enjoy it well enough, but I originally was going to portion it out for a few...
I've made 2 briskets so far that were pretty solid for my first two briskets and being in an electric smoker. This time I decided to try the foil boat method, but this whole cook seemed to be doomed from the start.
Did a small whole brisket, 9.75lbs before trim. Set MES140B to about 230 (probe...
Just realized I forgot to post a picture of it in action. Seems to be working very well. Can adjust it to go over either side of the railing depending on the wind, and it seems to carry just enough momentum to push all the smoke 15-20 feet away before rising to patios above.
I didn't measure the preheat, I just waited an hour assuming it's gotta be in the ball park.
I'm going to menards tomorrow to get another thermometer just for the ambient temp. I ended up pulling that chicken and putting in oven to finish just to try to crisp up the skin a bit, and at 400...
I am hoping you found a simple answer because mine seems to be doing the same thing. It cycles off because it thinks its at 275, then gets a little bit higher each time but an hour and 40 minutes in I am at 210 (set to 275)
I bought my MES140B from some guy who won it at an auction a couple years ago and never used it. So basically brand new. I've used twice now and the general pattern is as pictured here. This can't be normal! It says its heating up to 275 and shuts off, that is exactly why the graph is shaped...
I searched high and low for the "Take off" at Menards and Lowes, even with their employees, and only found it online after some trial and error with words searched. Is there a certain term they use when they work with a hard pipe? I thought about doing the vent hose but didn't think that was...
That piece that came in from Amazon was so close to perfect it grinds my gears. Can't put the tapered end in, and the other end is a little too big over the amazon piece. That said it works just fine with or without any additional adjustments as long as you can get it where you want whether it...
I keep hearing this, maybe I am overthinking it. If I had a grill, people would smell that too and the lease is pretty lax in that it says specifically "Due to fire hazards charcoal grills are prohibited. Gas or Electric grills are allowed so long as there's a drip pan...".
But when I went...
Ohhh.... So the longer the tube, the longer it has to cool, does that mean that it also will dissipate less in the air once it clears the tube? I might just be overly concerned with neighbors being bothered by the smoke but we are allowed gas or electric grills and I don't think it'll smell...
Thanks! I already ordered the other one which should perfectly fit for what I need. I read elsewhere on the forum about the long vertical exhaust tubes having issues with condensation...
I'm hoping having just a 2' pipe off the 45 degree elbow will be small enough to avoid that but who knows
So I finally found something similar to what I was thinking. My only question is, do you guys think it'll be safe (it is galvanized). My thoughts are it is literally mounted outside the smoker and it is only getting up to a max of 300 degrees inside. Any reason I should fear the zinc poisoning?
I need to redirect the smoke out of this Masterbuilt 140B. Here is my plan, which if there are any better ideas, I'd appreciate any advice.
MES 140B
Trip to Menards yielded these. I really wanted a square mount with a 3 inch pipe fitting which swear I have seen before but could not find...
I sort of thought that about the MES not really smoking people out of anything, wasn't 100% sure though. I was thinking about making an exhaust tube to direct the smoke away, but the bottom of the patio above me is 13 feet up so I figured that'd be enough for the near constant wind to be able...
I am looking at getting this to go on my apartment balcony (2nd of 4 floors). I don't want to be that guy and anger anyone. Plan to use mostly when cold out and windows closed or at night.
Two things:
1) Will the MES40 work in windy conditions?
2) If so, I also would like to ask the...
