    Royal Oak on Sale

Bryan B, I like both.  I prefer the lump for hotter cooks, or shorter cooks, with almost no ash buildup.  But I like the briquettes from RO too for longer smokes, although you will end up having to empty the ash a few times throughout the smoke, you won't have to add lit coals as often. It's a...

I finally got around to another smoke yesterday.  3 racks of ribs. Took ribs out of the fridge to counter for 20 minutes later while I lit some charcoal. Put them (still cold) on a cool 150* smoker with 1/2 chimney of lit coals to one side of a pile of unlit ones in the basket. 1/2 hour later...

Well, I still haven't found my favorite photo editing program, so I'll just have to post whether or not the color and etc. is off a bit. This was my 1st cook of the year.  06-11-2017  I cooked 5 chuckies for a fundraiser.  They cam out great and were a hit with all who had the pulled/chopped...

    G'Day from Down Under

Hello and welcome to the CG owners group. For my sfb grate, I use a small cooking grate that came from a discarded gas grill,  It fits just right, on top of the  drawer slides. It leaves plenty of room underneath for air flow, and I can use it without the box, or just set my box on it when I...

    Charcoal Consumption

That is not too bad with a COS.  I went through 2/3 of a bag of briquettes on a recent smoke of 11 hours.  1/2 hour to warm smoker and 10 1/2 hours of smoking.  If I would have used lump, I probable would have used the whole bag.  I love lump, over briquettes anytime, except for longer smokes, I...

I just did my first smoke of the year.  5 chuckies, but I just got a new computer and can't find some of my programs to load into it, like my favorite photo editor.  As soon as I get this windows 10 thing figured out (never?  lol)   and find my lost programs, I will be posting some more. Hi...

Chuck Roast took 10 1/2 HOURS! Yikes!

I had a hunch that was gonna be the answer.  I just never had such a drastic difference like that before. Thanks for the tip on pulling and freezing.  I'll do it that was the next time.

Chuck Roast took 10 1/2 HOURS! Yikes!

Anyone ever have some chuck roasts (about 3+ lb. each) take this long to cook? I smoked 5 chuck roasts for a benefit fund raiser dinner item.  4 of them were about 3 lb. or more each.  One was smaller at 1 3/4 lb. At 6 3/4 hours, two of them were done with IT of 200*-205*.  The smaller one...

I love the bags from Vacum Sealers Unlimited!!! Pics included!!

HangmanLi, The 10% off does help, but there is no free shipping, on bags.  Only on machines. However, I did the math, and even with shipping cost, discount, Lisa's bags are still cheaper than Food Saver's! And about 300% better!  I only get a non seal about once a year or two, if that!  And...

Why Did It Take So Long To Cook Pulled Pork

I agree 801driver I remember telling my daughter that BBQ, Beans, and Rice, are always cooked today, for tomorrows meals. I had to learn this the hard way too.  LOL      Many of ribs and etc. were deemed a failure (tough) when planned for dinner the same day. But when warmed back up the next...
