I know I'll need to get used. My main question was if there are any models I should be looking for. Anything that may fall near that price range used. Or even what specs I may need to look for.
Also, can you explain what you mean by "with no experience you don't need cheap"? Do you mean I...
Ok, I'm looking to purchase a welder so I can get started on my build. I'll start by saying that I have absolutely NO experience with welding or welders. I know enough to sound intelligent in a conversation and that's about it.
I would really like to stick with 110v, I know 220 is better but...
Solar - Awesome job, and again, thanks for the documentation. One question. It looks like your door to the firebox is simply cut from the plate and hinged and a latch? Did you do anything inside to seal it or just leave it like that?
I'm having trouble locating a small amount of 1/4" plate in my area. I have however, been able to locate 1/4" diamond plate (steel not aluminum) What's the difference as far as welding and actual functionality? Would it be a good substitute?
Changed mine out last year and got everything here. http://www.charbroil.com/replacement-parts/repair-parts.html?SID=7b6i3bcg5dtkh8kio2fae90d75 price isn't bad. Shipping was a bit steep but its' all factory parts. Actually replaced the grill this year as my firebox rotted out and I didn't want...
For the grates/baffle. I know there's a 4 inch gap between the baffle and the cooking grate, but how far above the firebox opening should the baffle be? Can it be right above or flush with the opening or should it be higher? I've got about 2 inches of play if I want my grate to be at the halfway...
Nother question. I may be able to get my hands on a 33 gallon compressor tank as well. Would it be as good to use as a fire box as getting steel plate and welding? It would definately be easier and more cost effective but if I'm going to burn alot of wood or loose alot of heat I'd rather go with...
Design questions. I'm getting ready to make cuts.
Does it mater which end the drain is on?
My tank has a hole that is in the perfect location for the drain, But it also happens to be at the end I was thinking of putting the firebox. Only reason is whoever cut the motor off did a poor job...

Thanks for the posts. I've tweaked it a bit since the pics and took it on it's inaugural run yesterday with some pork belly. Sorry no pics, wife had the camera.
I used some heat resistant caulk and high temp paint to seal the door and the area around the stack. Made a big difference. I got good...
It's cool, still appreciate the comment. I actually just finished soaking. Took a good solid 2 hours of soaking in an ice bath but it's chilling in the fridge now. Gonna get it on the smoker friday night and let it go for 24 hours most likely.
Ok, I've got a whole belly, roughly 10lbs that's been curing for 10 days today. I used a dry cure with mortons tenderquick and brown sugar. I believe it's Todd's recipe but not sure right now.
Question is, it's going to be a PITA to smoke during the week. What is the best way to hold it till...
randya, thanks for the reply. I think I'm going to go to Harbor Freight and pick up a cheapo grinder, and they sell a 6 pack of wheels for 6 bucks I think. I've pretty much got the design down in my head. There is a place that sells surplus at reduced rates, not a scrap yard, but as good as I...
