I had a similiar situation a couple of weeks ago. I smoked a couple of butts and carried them with me on a golf trip for eating several days later.
I smoked the meat all day Friday. Let it rest and pulled it Friday night. I put it in gallon ziplocs and made sure all they were sealed tight...
Welcome and Roll Tide! In case you're wondering about my nickname, I do know how to spell. ROLTYDE is my Tennessee license plate. I get a lot of comments about it here in Knoxville though I don't get as many of the smarta** ones that I used to hear. Beating the Vols 3 years in a row, and taking...
Anyone looking for a good deal on a CG smoker and has a Tractor Supply in the area, they've got a great buy on right now. It's the Smokin' Outlaw with the SFB for $159. Most everyone, including CG, sell the grill only for $159 and the SFB for $69...
I'm also fairly new to smoking. We mostly grilled, but I also enjoyed cooking with charcoal. I bought the CharGriller Duo and added their Side Firebox. The grill sells for about $299 and the SFB for $59. I bought mine at Kroger's. I made a few simple and easy mods I learned here and now I'm...
That's a great idea! Can you provide a "how-to" and maybe a Q-View? I have two digitals in my chamber, one for heat temp and one for internal meat temp. I use a block of wood with a hole drilled. I do have to be careful it doesn't move too much when I'm closing the lid. Your idea would eliminate...
I also have the CG Duo with SFB just like yours. After several smokes here's what I've found works well for me:
I made a square basket using a 24" square piece of expanded metal like I saw here on the forum. I purchased the expanded metal at Home Depot for $20. The result is a 12" square basket...
I'd do what Corn Cob said. Put your sign up now, if you haven't already, and put your phone number on it telling your prospective customers to call and reserve their Mother's Day ribs. That way you'd know how much you're going to sell/smoke and when you reach your max, take your sign down. It...
I pull mine at 165. They're done and nice and juicy! I've foil and let them rest about 20 minutes or so, if I can keep the starving masses at bay for that long.
I just use a nice square chunk out of the bag, and drill a hole through it. I have found after a couple of smokes, probably due to the drying process, the hole enlarges and the probe easily slides. I don't want to risk it slipping out and touching the grates so when it happens, that's when it...
I did my first brisket yesterday since I bought my SFB for my CG Duo. I was in Wal-Mart Saturday and looking at their briskets. They were all in the 12-15 lb range @ 2.28/lb, $30-$35. I found one on the bottom that had a price of $5.38. When I looked at the label it was priced at $2.28/lb but...
Last week I posted about an upcoming golf trip meeting 15 of my buddies in NW Florida. On Friday I'll be smoking butts and chickens. I'll leave Saturday with the butts pulled and chilled in the cooler in ziplocs for the two day drive from here in TN. I'll arrive Sunday, put the meat in the...
I've been a little leary of smoking a pork loin since they're usually quite lean. I wasn't sure how juicy it would be. I'll be interested in seeing other's replies. That said, we do our loins on planks over the gas grill and they are great!
I recently purchased the CharGriller SFB for my Duo. In shopping here's what I found:CharGriller website sells it for $59 plus $25 shipping (at least to TN)Amazon has it for around $80 with FREE shipping.Target sells it for $79.99 plus shipping and tax.Lowes sells it in the store for $69.99 plus...
I like to do whole pork loins. Williams-Sonoma sells a pack of asst. wood planks and I prefer maple for pork, although cedar is OK. I no longer buy my planks at the grocery/kitchen store. I buy 8" wide cedar boards at Home Depot and cut them into 14" pieces. I can get 7 planks out of an 8' board...
Thanks! I use freezer ziplocs at home to freeze leftovers but hadn't thought about using them for this. Besides, it'll be easier to carry in a cooler in bags instead of the aluminum pans.
