As I am planning out my reverse flow build I have been doing a ton of reading on here an learning alot. So thanks to everyone for sharing. Anyway, I see alot of people talking about putting water in the rf plate to act as a heat sink. Doesn't the plate already do that? Also do you just close the...
Did anyone compete in the "backyard" competition in Owensboro last weekend? I was curious cause when I was reading the rules it said that set-up was at 6am and that judging was at noon. I was curious as to how you could get anything done if you can't even set up till 6am.
I just wanted to say I tried this finishing sauce on my pulled pork yesterday. I was already completely satisfied with my pork but this just sent it over the top. This is my favorite thing Ive done since I started q'in a few years ago. As simple as it is, I couldn't not believe what a difference...
yeah that spread sheet helped a ton for all my openings dimensions. now if someone could tell me about how far above the opening do i put my tuning plate and then how far above that should i have my grates, that would pretty much answer all my questions for now if i do decide to go traditional.
if I go with the tradional method I want to be able to put tuning plates in it. how far above the opening from the fire box should it be and then how far above that should the bottom grate be? oh yeah...also how big should the opening be?
Im not sure I was clear about the two grates. I mean that there will a second grate above the main one that will have the same clearance as the bottom one vs what you usually get with a circular cooking chamber where the top is usually quite a bit smaller in terms of clearance to the top
I am planning on build an offset style with the cooking chamber to be rectangle in shape. the dimensions im thinking are making it 5ft in length 2ft wide and maybe 30" tall. Im thinking by making it that tall I could have two cooking grates with 10" clearance each, effectively doubling my...
well i got ahold of all propane companies in a hundred mile radius of me and the ones that will get rid of tanks want 400-500 dollars for them. im not paying that much for something that im gonna make a bunch of mods to anyway. id just assume start from scratch and build it how i want
thanks JDT..that got me in headed in the right direction. They did'nt have anything smaller than a 500, but he gave me the numbers of about 5 other places I could try. Im considering maybe two builds out the 500.
Im planning on just doing my first build from scratch cause I have given up on trying to find a propane tank in my area. I have know idea why I haven't asked around on here. I am in southern indiana if anyone can help me.
Im from southern Indiana and am somewhat new to this site. I actually started reading it a few years ago when I first got smoker(Chargrill off-set w/ some mods I learned here). I smoke every chance I get sun,rain,snow..anything short of Armageddon. Im fairly confident with butts,ribs,and...
all the threads ive been reading at some point refer to bbq engineer and to check out his builds. how do I find things that he has posted without looking through every single one?
Thanks for the pics. Im getting ready to start a build very similar just with the firebox on the side. I was curious as to where you got the insulation and after its all said and done do you think it was worth the extra effort and more importantly the money?
awesome...thanks for the pics. this is what i needed to see. I will post some pics once I start the build. any advice out there as I start to dive into this build would be appreciated
yeah I have seen that one before..its bad ***! The shape is what I had in mind. Im curious as to y I have never seen a horizontal smoker that is just simply rectangular shaped. This would be a much easier build if it will produce the same results. Does anyone have any ideas on this?
Theres no pic on your post of the on ebay fyi. I did call the supply companies and they wont sell even their junk ones due to liability. I also call all the scrap yards here and they wont accept the unless they are cut in half or have huge holes in them.
I am about to start on my first smoker build. I have all the tools and fab skills to build it from scratch. I want to do an off set style similar to like the lang 60. I originally wanted to do one from a large propane tank but am not having any luck locating one. So I thought I could build one...
