Advice for Butt Smoke
If you have time, do the butts the day before, and reheat on the 4th. That way you don't have any surprises. you can also start them asap on the 3rd and after they finish, wrap in towels and into the cooler. Get yourself a nap, pull and enjoy the 4th with your guests. -

Just a good meaty sausage, remove wrapper and smoke, or roll in your favorite rub and smoke, or stuff with what ever and smoke. You can even wrap any of the above in bacon and smoke. What ever trips your trigger. Enjoy your fatty or fatties. Experiments you can eat and enjoy. -

dutch oven style and c.o. skillet
Grindstaff3, as far as the legs on a dutch oven, I have found that if you are using a tripod or grill to sit the ovens on the legs are just in the way. Where the legs come in handy is when baking in a D.O. where you can place coals or bricquets under the oven and on the lid to do your baking. I...- short one

Butts and ribs today
Thanks CKC. I stated on my first post that I was dooing two butts, but they were 9 to 10 lbers so I cut them in two to cook faster. That's why there are 4 butts pictured. Mrs. says butts rock. -

Thanks fellas, put some burgers over the firebox for dinner and put the ribs on. With the internal firebox you can grill over it and smoke on the sides. -

Diameter of Smokestack
gbpb, IMHO you could use either as long as you have enough stack opening to allow the airflow to flow freely. Figure how many square inches of opening you will be allowing to come into your firebox through your vent and use a stack which is equal to or larger in area for a stack. Hope I worded...- short one
