Simple question about stripping old fridge

I’m not painting it. It’s painted already. I’m talking about the inside of the fridge where food used to go.

Simple question about stripping old fridge

You’re right. Sorry about that. I plan to put in some sort of electric element to heat it and do the mailbox mod as the smoke source. I’ll likely mostly use it for low temp smoked around 225 but I’d like to make it have the potential to get up to around 400 or so. Haven’t made up my mind on the...

Simple question about stripping old fridge

Another question I have is about the paint on the inside portion of the fridge. Do I have to scrape that off as well? I have no clue what kind of paint it is but I’m wondering if it will burn when I smoke food and end up ruining it. I haven’t seen any other posts in my search for an answer to this.

Simple question about stripping old fridge

It doesn’t have coils in the shelves. It is an old fridge.

Simple question about stripping old fridge

I haven’t considered anything yet. Never done this before. Would TSP get it pretty cleaned up? I might even have some on hand.

Simple question about stripping old fridge

I got most of it off but there is still some tar visible. It is impossible to scrape off everything. Should I clean it with a solvent now? Burn it off? There’s not much left. Just a bit here and there.

Simple question about stripping old fridge

Had a progressive afternoon dismantling this thing. But now I’m at a crappy step, removing the tar from the inside. The stuff on the bottom was brittle and came right off, but the stuff on the sides and ceiling is still sticky and really tough going. Any tips?

Simple question about stripping old fridge

Hey all. I attached a pic of the fridge I’m gonna start tearing apart. I messed up my last project and was no longer happy with it so I’m starting over. My question is how to remove the chrome pin striping and Frigidaire emblem at the top without damaging them so I can strip off the paint? I...

    Mailbox/ammo box mod question

Can you explain what you mean by mounting holes? Or if you have any pics?

    Mailbox/ammo box mod question

I’m not sure. I’ve never seen a mailbox mod in action. I just got the idea from on here but it sounds like many have done it successfully. I haven’t got to that point in planning yet but I have a lot of questions about that. Also about ensuring there is enough airflow through the whole cabinet, etc

    Mailbox/ammo box mod question

How do some of you attach the ducting or pipes to the smoker? And what do you use fit the pipe/ducts? I’m looking for something that looks good and is functional.

Am I doing things correct? (safely)

Uh oh. I did not let it rest 4 hours. I am doing two batches of 25 pounds. The first batch was mixed, stuffed and went into the smoker after about 1 hr. The second batch is mixed, stuffed and sitting in the fridge waiting for it’s turn. Is the 1st batch gonna be messed up?

Am I doing things correct? (safely)

Hi everyone. I’m doing my first batch of smoked elk sausage. It’s actually farmers sausage which is a favorite where I’m from. I added cure #1 to the meat mixture at a ratio of 1tsp per 5 pounds of meat. I then hung the sausage in a smoker to cold smoke for 4-6 hrs. The place I bought the...

    Mailbox/ammo box mod question

I see lots of posts on builds where guys vent smoke from the mailbox into the fridge with piping of some kind. My question is, why not mount the mailbox to the fridge and drill holes allowing the smoke to travel directly from the mailbox into the smoker. To be more specific, drilling holes from...

Need advice on sheet metal please

I’m still having a tough time picturing where I am inserting these shims. To me they would create a gap between the sheet metal and the door. I know I’m looking at this wrong some how and I’m gonna feel like an idiot when it’s brought to me attention.

Need advice on sheet metal please

I know this is an old post but addresses my question perfectly. What I don’t understand is, what is being shimmed and what is being used as a shim? Is the shim going between the door and the rolled steel? And if so, would there not be a crack showing where it is shimmed? I know I’m missing...
