More pics. I didn't pull her teeth up like that, she's just that mean and vicious.
handle on the kettle is just so I can pick the damn thing up and move it around. Will grind off at some point before paint/power coat.
You know the little alcohol swabs the Dr./nurse uses before you get a shot? They sell them at the drug store. Buy them and use them to clean out your respirator prior to wearing it each time. (or marry a nurse and get them for free) Either way, WEAR IT and clean it out every time you...
This forum formatting is weird. I'm used to something different. (vBulletin)
I've seen that site. How is putting your meat that close to fire basket? Do you have crazy hot/cold spots? Does it run hot? Cook heights confused the shit out of me for about a week. Everyone says you want your cook...

Never took a propane cylinder valve off before. Those f'ers are on there good. Got pissed off (after about 3 hours of wrestling with it) and decided brute force was easiest way to go. Worked super easy with a 48" cheater bar on a crescent wrench. Yes those are bed frame rails. Yes...
I had a blue mm 211 for a bit. That's a really solid machine. The 211 is at or above my skills too :) Only reason why I have a MM 350 is because I sold/flipped the 211 for good money and picked up the 350 for stupid cheap. Also have a red Precision 225. That's a great machine too --and wayyyy...
How about a photo or two?
Will that convince anyone to talk to me about diffuser plates or grill heights? Please?
edit: grinder 'n paint make me the welder I 'aint... I have an older (blue) MM 350 and a (red) Precision 225. This drum clone is going to be really cool but I really need info...
Cool. What are you welding with? I'm doing a UDS now and it's a total pain dealing with 10, 16, 18 and 20 gauge all on same cooker. Are you keeping your arcs on the thicker metal? (I assume the angle iron is thicker than the firebox sidewalls)
Thanks. That's what I figured. Started an UDS over the weekend and I'm glad I went overboard and put heavy gauge metal in some places. I like the look of a traditional barrel/round offset smoker so I guess just wrestling with what I want for looks/style and at same time knowing how much easier...
Thanks Dave. Do you think it is worth it to mess with a newer-ish (very thin gauge metal) Brinkmann offset (was free to me) and convert it to RF? Metal is so thin it's going to be a pita to weld, probably need a fire basket like in UDS and it's going to need a lot of mods (welding) just to get...
Go to a local scrap yard. Not a car/auto pick and pull type place --the kind of place that would take the Golden Gate bridge if you could (legally... had to add that disclaimer) figure out a way to get it to them. Google "steel scrap yards" in your area. It may have a little surface rust or a...
Can anyone talk to me about how important it is to have your cook height 24" up off the coals? I also have some questions about diffuser placement/height. Too low would just be heating a piece of metal. Too high wouldn't be right either (air and moisture/drippings). Is there a sweet spot for...
I did read your disclosure. Thanks for the reply. I'm wondering specifically what "Of course if you are one of "those" people" means in reference to a Pi. To be honest I haven't ever used either. I own three Pi's but bought them about 2 years ago for some home automation stuff and just never got...
I'm looking to build an open-source (free to DIY) wireless controller. Something that can do up to eight temp sensors, four fans and four servos. There is a ton of really good info out there for DIY smoker controller builds but everything I see is lacking --one fan, one (or two) temp sensors...
Weather is bad. I got bored. I have a few drums and metal tanks cut apart. Just about ready to start welding. Trying to figure out what people do for rack heights. Drum is going to be lined. I cut the tops and bottoms off two 55 gal drums. One drum I have cut down the welded seam so I can curl...
Picked up a free Brinkmann offset. It's going to need a lot of work but it's a halfway decent platform to start with and the price was right. Do I just weld a plate across the bottom of CC keeping the size/area of the FB to CC opening the same across the bottom of the plate to the bottom of CC...
Sorry this started out as a different post. Then I edited it so mods could delete and now I'm changing it again. I figured out my smoker build and when I'm done I'll have a bunch of metal left over. Will be 4.5 55 gallon drums (the half drum was from making a grill/fire pit for a redneck themed...
Thanks daveomak. In looking at the drums I bought a little closer I think wrapping the outside would be the only (smart/sane) way to go. That said, the more I look/think about this, the more I think a square vertical smoker is going to be MUCH easier for me to build/make. I think I'm seeing why...
I'll try to keep this as short and to the point as I can. I have medium/moderate metal fabrication and welding skills (have decent gtaw and gmaw machines). Haven't quite figured out exactly how I'm going to do this yet. I found a 55-gallon drum with a cool paint color and logo on it and I like...
I have a question and very interested in the opinions & discussion that may ensue from it.
We (a group of friends) entered a smoking competition and placed 2nd overall (got robbed out of 1st). Doesn't matter where we placed or what the competition was --we all have the bug. We had talked about...
That's similar to what I'm planning (slide, not twist). I believe the calculator tells you how much air intake you need to provide into the FB, based on its size --and then there is a split ratio of how much of that area you want above and below the grate in the FB. If you use your head there's...
