    Lets talk about Hoppers.................

OK folks, let's talk about the pro & cons of various hopper positions that the main players use. Traeger, MAK, Yoder, et all use a left side mounted hopper with a long auger to carry pellets to the pot, while Rec Tec uses a center mounted hopper. Of course, all the companies say their...

    Fix or Return Traeger?

UPDATE Well, that turned out to be an easy decision after all. I went ahead and installed the new temp probe and controller that Traeger sent me. Fired it up on the smoke setting and after 20-25 minutes, the temp was sitting at 158-160. Now, as some of us know, Traeger (and many others) like...

    Fix or Return Traeger?

Read a bunch about the GMG already. Lots of positive AND negative reviews. One major thing I notice is that the controller looks very similar to the Traeger and if it is anywhere near the same quality, no thanks. Also, GMG only has a 2 yr warranty.

    Fix or Return Traeger?

Good thing about it being bought at Costco is the return policy, bad part is that if I do bring it back and purchase a different brand, I own it, permanently. That's fine if it works, but if not, where am I then? That is the only thing having me question bringing the traeger back. I like the...

    Fix or Return Traeger?

So we bought a Traeger Texas pellet smoker when Costco had a Traeger rep there back in April. Grill was discounted from the online price, came with some extras, etc. Plus, its Costco, where I could bring it back if not happy. Set up the grill, pre-burn it and then when used for the first few...

    Why were my ribs tough?

The Traeger pellet smoker/grills use a different set up. There is a smoke setting and when on that setting, the temp will vary between 180 & 205* There are also straight settings of 180, 205,225, 250, etc. The smoke setting get the most smoke output. Didn't have this issue when I was using a...

    Why were my ribs tough?

So you guy's think the ribs were not cooked enough, which is why they were tough? Does a boneless piece of meat generally cook faster than a bone in piece of meat?

    Why were my ribs tough?

Internal temp taken with Thermapen. Cooking temp was set on smoke (185-205*) for the first 3 hrs, taken off, wrapped, cooked at 225* for 2 hrs, unwrapped and cooked at 225* for final hour. What I don't understand is if all the sections were cooked the exact same way, why did the boneless...

    Why were my ribs tough?

Put a large rack of ribs which were first squared off St.Louis style into my Traeger pellet smoker yesterday. The rack was cut in equal halves and the bottom portion was also smoked. Using the 3-2-1 method, I pulled the ribs at 167*. The bottom portion of the rack that was cut of to get the...

Heat resistant gloves for pulling pork apart?

Tired of burning my hands. Trying to find the heat resistant gloves you see people wearing at competitions when pulling pork apart, etc. Disposable ones would be great if available. I do NOT want the gloves that are used instead of oven mitts. Basically they look like a heavy rubber glove that...

    Maverick ET-732 DOA?

Just wanted to report back and say that as soon as I got a hold of Todd, he sent out a new unit. I packed up the old one, sent it back to Todd and he then credited me for the return shipping (return label got lost in the hustle/bustle of the new warehouse move). Couldn't ask for better customer...

    Maverick ET-732 DOA?

Hey Todd, Didn't get the message you sent. I understand the complications of moving, just didn't know when you were moving and couldn't find the post. I have received your emails from a little while ago and would like to thank you for the handling of this matter. Sorry for the...

    Maverick ET-732 DOA?

How long ago did he post that info? I have tried email with no response and also just now called the number listed on his website. Got no answer and the voice mailbox is not set up to take messages. Pretty much everybody checks their email via computer or phone at least once a day, (especially...

    Maverick ET-732 DOA?

If I could get Todd to reply to my email, maybe I could get it straightened out. The cardboard box was pretty beat up when it arrived. I'm starting to wonder if that has anything to do with the unit not working.

    Maverick ET-732 DOA?

Did all of that. No go. Besides that, why wouldn't the transmitter even turn on or off?

    Maverick ET-732 DOA?

Only an inch or so of the tip was in the water. I am not new to smoking and have a fairly good grasp on the whole process. Thanks anyways.

    Maverick ET-732 DOA?

Didn't really want to bother him on a weekend, so I figured at least this way I would know if I am possibly doing something wrong.

    Maverick ET-732 DOA?

So I got a ET-732 from Todd and I go to set it up for use tomorrow. Read the instructions, OK, no big deal. Install the batteries in order to to a boiling water calibration test. Turn the receiver on, go to turn the transmitter on/off and I get nothing. It will neither turn off, nor re-sync...
