I recently bought a Beeman 1073 broke barrel pellet gun for $125 at Walmart. Will shoot .177 and .22, comes with two barrels. Worked great on the groundhog I used to have in the garden .
Sounds like my complaints way back when..lol. I did actually add another heater to my 40". Worked ok. Put it on a dimmer and timer switch. They sell a finned tubular heater that would do the job if it bugs you enough to drill a few more holes and do some wiring :). Especially in the cooler...
I'm another with State Farm, awesome company. Best prices, helpful and friendly. The agent I deal with even called their underwriter to get them to forgive an accident I had in another state. Said they didn't feel it was my fault and it got me the safe driver rates, saved me $600 a year. Got all...
I think Black Cherry is the most common and largest of the Cherries. Probably the variety most of us burn. If the logs are a larger diameter that's what you most likely have...good stuff.
I got a pile of semi seasoned hickory. Planning to load up the chamber and let it go overnight. I have an electric heater option in my smoker, so won't cost more than a few bucks to get a decent sized batch of hickory dried and ready to go :).
Here's a few more pics. Got the valve and mineral wool insulation on. Mineral wool is 3" thick. Still need to put a skin over the GF firebox. Held the insulation up for now with a few wraps of foil tape.
So far I've done a smoke at temps of 235 and 325. 2.3" of chute height = 1lb of lump. At...
I insulated the chamber in my homebuilt with fiberglass. Fiberglass is good to 1000F max, so using under 800F continuous is ok if you keep it dry. The gravity feed firebox I added got wrapped in mineral wool. Mineral wool is good to 2000F+ max and can be used at 1200F continuous. The MES uses a...
You could also try getting some 100% flavor wood pellets. The traeger brand pellets are a blend of fuel wood (oak) and flavor wood. There are sites where you can order pellets that are 100% hickory, cherry, etc.
Try your local dump or appliance grave yard. You should be able to get a ton of them for free . Even your local craigslist free section for an oven to scavange.
I'd just go and give them a hand, check things out and have some fun . No expectations. When it's all said and done, let them know you would be happy to fill in on the team if they ever find themselves a man short.
