There are some folks on here that have used it, I have not. It seems to work for those that use it...I have often wondered about the quality of the smoke it produces, and if it would create a nasty taste in a hot-smoking environment.
I do, however, think it would be excellent for cold...
Usually it's one of the Folgers blends...black silk, gourmet supreme or the like...when they're on sale, that is.
My wife has been substitute teaching for a woman that is on maternity leave and found a "bent-n-dent" store that regularly has Starbucks, Caribou and a variety of other high-priced...

You can save yourself some coin on the build by just using some flat, flexible fridge magnets over the intake holes. No need for the close nipples & caps, or even the ball valve setup. All total, it would knock about $12 - $15 off of your build.
Use the extra cash to buy Weber brand charcoal...
If I recall the thread right, preburning your splits can make for some excellent smoke and very tasty Que....but, it is also VERY labor intensive, and you will undoubtedly go through more wood than normal.
If you have the time to tend the fire, and have a good source for cheap (preferrably free)...

Something to be aware of is that the "ecb" designation covers a variety of different smokers. the cheapest these days, I believe is called the Brinkmann Smoke-N-Pit. There are mods for this model that make it easier to use.
The Brinkmann Vertical smoker has, IMHO, become rather cheaply...
If you can find Brinkmann Gourmet charcoal smoker, I'd recommend that over the cheaper bullet OR the square vertical...with just a couple simple mods, that can be found on this site, you'll have a easy-to-use smoker. Last time I saw one at Home Depot the cost was around $60, I think.
I still...
The grate inside the firepan is a good start to get a better burn. IMHO, adding a damper on the base to regulate the amount of air getting to the coals will give you MUCH better temp control.
Beyond that, the holes in the lid will help ONLY if your lid seals fairly tight....which the gourmet...
Nice haul, Tip! I been eyein' those mixers also...we grind a lot of deer meat and mix it with ground pork...sure would make life easier on processing day!

Eric
I have an ecb gourmet WITH mods, and a 18# bag of charcoal is more than enough for a pork butt or brisket smoke. I can't say how well it works in an un-modded ecb, as I've never smoked with mine that way.
One thing that gets overlooked on these smaller charcoal smokers is that you can divide...
I enjoy a good hand-rolled cigar on occasion...sometimes while I'm smoking meats, I'll kick back and make some of my own thin blue smoke...
La Gloria Cubanas are probably my favorite from a "bang-for-the-buck" standpoint. Others I enjoy when I have the coin are Romeo Y Julieta and Montecristo...
I have the kind with the bolt that locks the ring down, and it works just fine for me...haven't seen/used the kind with the handle, so can't offer any advice.
Just by slipping the ring around the lid, it seems to hold the lid down and seal it up pretty well. Sometimes I'll pinch the ends of...
Welcome JD...sorry I'm a little late with this...

Any cut of meat is only as tough to smoke as you make it. As you've already found out, patience is the key to good smokes....and it's true for a brisket, also. If you're really lucky, you may just happen to snag a brisket that gives you little or no stall...there were several threads from this...
