    Time in the Smoker

x2 on the two hours per pound; I have never had one that cooked faster. Here's my latest experience as an example. Last week I bought two Boston Butts in a twin pack with a total weight of 16#. When I prepared them for the smoker they 'looked' to be the same size and I would guess close to the...

    PID outdoor operation question?

I have also just started using a PID, so I'll be interested in any answers to this post. One thought; if the PID is kept inside and not taken out until you start the smoker, will the heat the SSR generates be enough to keep it warm enough? I know, I know... the answer is probably "it depends"...

    Built my first smoker, Help

Hey Jesse. My idea would be to simply remove the element from the rest of the hotplate (if possible), and use high temp wire to connect one to the other. The element would be placed inside the smoker, and the original controls would be outside and safe from the heat. If that won't work I don't...

How do you spend your "smoke breaks"?

If the weather's good I sit on the deck w/ my wife and we both enjoy the chance to relax. For all nighters I try to nap with checks when necessary. My smoker is a modified 'SFB turned electric', and I'm working on automating as much as I can so I can smoke during the week when I'm on call and...

4AM Brisket in the MES with Que-View

Wow! That's a great looking piece of meat. I've yet to work up the nerve to try a brisket, but posts like this certainly help. Poppy Bill (using TapaTalk on Moto Droid X2)

so fat side down or up?

I have always done fat side up, but the last time I smoked 2 butts w/ fat trimmed off and that side down, as mentioned above. Didn't taste any better or worse (after all, a smoked hunk of pork HAS to taste good ), but I did get the best bark I've ever gotten. Think I'll keep doing it that way...

Engineered Smoke - High Quality Electric Smoker

Hi Nick. Your project sounds very exciting and I will be sure to follow your progress. Per your request, I would like to throw in my 2 cents worth. My preference of smokers is vertical electric. Electric because it allows me to smoke more often without much prep, which suits my odd work...

Some of our members got to try out Todd's A-MAZE-N Pellet Smoker - see what they thought of it!

I have to agree with everything said so far. One thing I would like to add is that the AMNPS works EXACTLY as advertised... first time and every time. You put in the pellets of choice (I also love the Pitmaster's Blend), light one or both ends, let it flame for 5 - 10 minutes, then blow out the...

    Cheap element controller

I built a seperate box w/ a short aluminum chimney for mine. Once lit I but the box under the smoker near the draft intake, and it works like a charm. I've never had an ECB but I know a bunch of folks on here either have one or had one in the past. Probably the best thing to do is start a new...

    Cheap element controller

I think you're on the right track. Also if the wood is hot enough to flame up it may be putting off more smoke than you need. Let us know how it works out.

    Cheap element controller

Woodcutter... There are others on here who can give you a much more educated answer with regards to electronics/devices to control an electric element. From what you say however I don't think your stove switch is the problem. If your "switch can control the temperature pretty well" then that's...
