    First disappointing smoke

Sue to increasing popularity of our annual summer shin dig, I recently purchased a Dyna-Glo vertical offset charcoal burner.  Everything went together well and the seasoning/break-in burn was pretty much as expected.  A little door leakage and a tad hot compared to what I am used to with my old...

    smoker mod help

So, will bump this one current.  I just picked a new one of these up yesterday.  First thing i notice that is different from your pics is apparently the manufacturer listened to its customers and redesigned the fuel basket.  There is now an ash tray on bottom with a grate and basket for charcoal...

    Partay!

Well, as usual, the best intentions never see fruition.  I have no pics to share, got a bit busy with fire department calls and just plain forgot to take them.  However, everything did turn out very well.  All 4 fatties were gone, all the ABT's, and 2/3 of the pulled pork.  And to top it off, I...

Looking for some input on a "competition"

So, I am looking to "cash in" on my smoking abilities, and my fire department affiliations, by promoting a local fire department "smoke-off" competition.  Something that would be a fundraiser for a burn camp or something along those lines.  My concern at the moment, which is hopefully where you...

    Partay!

Been a while since I have been on here so i thought I would post the menu upcoming for 4th party (smoker-wise anyway).  Last year I did 30# of pork ribs as well as a mess of ABT's.  While the ribs turned out great and everyone left full, I am going for a little less labor this year lol.  20-25#...

Need some help or tips with a outdoor leisure 38208G smoke hollow propane-gas smoker

I had the same problem when mine was new (I have the 34168).  After a few smokes and a bit of frustration, it settled in and now I actually have it just below medium to keep temps around 230.  I have no idea why just using it would do this, but I am not complaining.

    Smoked Green Beans

Green beans are one of our favorite veggies off the smoker.  Another good one for the smoker is asparagus. Pretty much the same setup. just make sure to steam it for 15 min or so to soften it up a bit.  hmm.....guess I need to get some stuff around to smoke up this weekend before the bitter cold...

    Test run for Thanksgiving

Well, after a very busy month I am finally up and smoking stuff again.  Decided to do a test run on a whole turkey since i hadn't done one whole yet.  Picked up a 11# bird, mixed up a cajun brine and soaked it overnight.  Got it started, after an interruption that distrated me and ended up...

Today and every once in a while they run what they call a "woot-off"  Normally they are a one item per day site, but when a wootoff happens its one after another.  The probes sold out quick and the moved on to knives.  It is a fun site to check daily.  I have gotten alot of things from them

    Lowes and Kingsford

Its been great for me at the moment.  I get a great deal on charcoal and $ for stuff at Lowes which is needed as I just bought another foreclosure home to redo.  Only downside is my local store limits it to 2 sets at a time.

    Lowes and Kingsford

Don't know if it's everywhere but my local Lowe's currently has a 2 pack of 13.9 pound bags of Kingsford charcoal for $6.99 with a coupon for a future purchase of $10 off $50 purchase at Lowe's.

    Shoulder and fatties!

This process continues to amaze me.  Last time two 10# at 11 hours and 12.5 (I think) and this one was 8.5# and took 13.  Every time I do this it is just a reminder of the thought of "all meat cooks in its own good time...leave it be!"

    Shoulder and fatties!

Finally get a chance to fire up the smoker this weekend and wouldn't ya know the store had pork shoulders on sale @$1.19/pound!  Between that and the fact that all their ribs were partially frozen still......pulled pork it is!  And since there is room, we are doing a couple fatties...one pizza...

Quick Cook Pulled Pork ????, Updated with Results.

Ok...maybe off in my thinking, but....if you take a 10# and hack it in half doesn't that yield two 5#'ers?  Maybe a bit unorthodox, but if you are in a hurry it may work well for ya

    Sweet Baby Rays Deal!

Just an FYI....at least locally, the Kroger chain has small bottles of Sweet Baby Rays on sale 10 for $10.  Not too bad of a deal.
