So instead of cutting holes in my brand new (twice used) Smoke Hollow Electric to possibly fix a vent issue, I have decided to do a little project. I am going to convert an old Kelvinator Refrigerator into a smoker. I am driving down the Pueblo CO this Sunday to pick it up. A guy I found on...
So how did you go about hooking up the temp control to the eletric burner? I am fairly handy with electronics being a pc tech but am curious as to how it all hooks together.
So I didn't get a chance to make any mods to the smoker this weekend. But, while wanfering through craigslist.com I found an old Kelvinator Fridge that a guy is giving away for free. He said his original intentions were to turn it in to a smoker but he has since moved and it is sitting at his...
Thanks for all the help\info. I am going to try to add the top vent this weekend. I will hold off on the bottom vent and wood tray until I later. I will keep everyone posted with pics.
THANKS
I think I may be safe on the wiring. The Smoke Hollow does not have temp controls on the top like the MasterBuilt, the heating element sits at the bottom and an external Rheostat plugs directly into it from the right side of the smoker. I will contact the manufacturer just to be safe though...
I have a ET-72 and like everyone else has said the range is def. not what they claim. Other than that I have not had a problem with mine. I have used it twice in the smoker and multiple times in my oven. I just purchased an ET-7 Dual Probe (supposedly does not have the range problem that the...
I have a Smoke Hollow Electric and my door thermo was off about 60 degrees low. I contacted OLP and they are sending me out a new one. No explanation as to why it would be so far off but as long as the new one works I am happy. I bought a Maverick ET-7 dual probe to be safe, one probe for the...
After reading a couple of posts I think that my meat is being steamed more than smoked. While I can def. taste the smoky flavor I do not get a smoke ring and I do not see much in the way of smoke coming from the vent on the rear of my smoker. The vent that is on the smoker is very small, maybe...
So I was a little sauced by the time it came to slice the brisket so I forgot to take pictures.
After the meat hit 190 I pulled it, wrapped it in foil and a towel and placed it in a cooler for about 1.5 hours. Then I sliced. The tooth pick method works great saw exactly which way to slice and...
So here it is, Super Bowl Sunday. If it were not for my love of Que and my new found love for smoking myself I would be sleeping. Anyways, here goes.
2 nights ago I brought home the brisket (albiet a small one - 5lbs) and slathered with mustard and put on my homeaid rub. Let sit for what...
Jeff, welcome aboard. My name is Jeff as well and I am also a newb. I too use an eletric and so far I am loving it. I also would recommend the ecourse. I did a bit of research before I even attempted my first smoke and while most of the info I got was helpful the ecousre opened my eyes and...
So far I am happy with the unit. It seems to seal well around the door. During the seasoning period it kept the heat up pretty well even in cold temps. It seems well built and sturdy. Mine was a floor model, my brother got the same unit in a box and his experience has been the same as mine...
Thanks for the tip. I read through a couple already and did find them to be very helpful. It looks though as if most people prefer or at least have purchased the propane models. While the electric will work fine for my purposes now I am thinking I will move up to a propane in the near future...
So I just went on a long lunch and picked up brisket. Unfortunatly the place I went whole (paycheck) foods did not have anything larger than a 5lb and it did not have a fat cap, although they did say that they can order any size in and keep the cap on if I want. I picked it up anyway becasue I...

I have the 30166E except that mine has 4 racks. It was pruchased at Gander Mountain in Denver.
I have used it once and from a beginers standpoint smoke pretty...

Thanks for the tip on a longer smoke. I am planning on starting at about 6am for a 4pm ish finish. I hope that will be long enough. The...
I have been a Smoked Meat fanatic for years but had never tasted home smoked anything. I have been reading tips and tales on the net for almost a year in anticipation that I would one day be able to smoke something on my own. For Xmas this year my parents purchased 2 Smoke Hollow Electric...
