Thanks for the input. Never considered the chicken fat. Used chicken for a few of my friends that have high cholesterol. Smoking mention dried milk...would guess as binding agent more than moisture retention. Never thought about the olive oil....that may do it.

How much brine for those 2#? Also did you let brine cool before adding to pickles? You gave ratios but not amount per each batch...gallon quart etc.

I use a quick tool for measuring out my cure amount.
I use this site (made by one of the members of this site) to calculate cure.
Season as you would but use site to calculate cure ratio.
There are a couple other sites posted here somewhere but not sure where...
Well in the old days, used sheep dip...unfortunately not available any more.....some tree oils like hmmmm can't spell but its the same tree them little kola's eat...gets rid of the little buggers...though on baby animals not good for them...eyes your animals would be fine.
