Friday I had a big craving for beef ribs and I had never smoked them so I made it a mission to find some. I ventured to a local grocer downtown that sells all sorts of meat cuts. After talking to the owner and finding some ribs, I started on my way home. As I’m leaving a stoplight, a black...
Thanks!
My father in law is firing it up tomorrow for me to do a test burn in the morning in Michigan. Next weekend I’m cooking three pork shoulders on it for a party and I’ll be sure to give a report on it in this thread.
Keep going! I'm sure you have by now though. I take my pork shoulders to a minimum of 195, but I have taken them up to 200-205 before. I've always had great results either way, for some reason though, I always like to take my pork shoulders a little higher if I have the time.
I take my splits (2"-4" diameter) and use a miter saw every time. I personally haven't had an issue with it, but I can see how it would get sketchy. Most of my splits are really straight, so when I put my "bark" side up to the fence of my miter saw, it holds really well. I go slow through the...
Thank you all for the kind words! I’ll be sure to post pics from the first cook next weekend. I’ll be coaching my father in law on doing the test burn this weekend. If he sends any pics, I’ll post those as well!
Can't go wrong with a Weber Smokey Mountain (WSM). You can do all sorts of things with them and they are very compact and easy to use. What style are you looking for? Do you want to have something that you can use with minimal tending or are you looking for something that will require regular...
Posted a thread in the general smoker build forum, wanted to post some pics in the reverse flow specific build forum. This is a Lang clone of a 48 model. Very similar CC and FB dimensions. The stack is longer than a Lang and the grates configured slightly different. I modeled the collapsible...
Well I attempted to season it up but I was having some major difficulty. I thought the in-laws had some good seasoned cherry but it was still a little moist. We got a good fire going in the FB with some dry ash and cherry and got a coal bed established. It was 22 degrees outside with 20-30 mph...
I also have an axle under it on the FB end, failed to mention that. You can see the painted wheels up on the weld bench. We have a piece of plywood for now that we finished for the foldable shelf. This might turn into a nice slab of cherry eventually if I find someone with a chainsaw or bandsaw...
Just about knocked out. Need the bottom rack between the legs completed, expanded metal for the shelving, paint and wheels. I think I’m going to burn it out tomorrow.
