    off to war

We have some very good friends whose son is still in college but is in the Guard. He left Thursday night for Kuwait. I am sure he is there now. It brings it so much closer to home. May your Marine be blessed, John.

I have gone a minimum of 3-1/2 hours and a maximum of 6 hours. But, sorry, I do not Fear the Turtle!

First GOSM smoke - not smoking as much as I'd like

I have a new GOSM from Bass Pro Shop that's the new three-door model with a door for the water pan and a door for the chip box. I have the cast iron box and because of the design, the cast iron chip box is the only thing that will fit there. In the two months or so I've used it, I've not had any...

Beef Back Ribs "aka Dino Bones" on sale at Publix.

BCFishMan, I didn't see that in the Publix ad this week, so I guess that's an in-store special?

Love to eat it and need to learn how to cook it

No, leave the bone in. It adds flavor. If done correctly, the bone pulls out clean with precious little effort. Be sure and read up on all that's needed to be done when smoking a Boston butt, especially the resting part after the smoking is done.

Smoker Assembly for a Idiot ???

I got my GOSM at Bass Pro and I am the original complete moron when it comes to putting things together (just ask my wife...LOL), but I was able to put it together in less than an hour. I have a BA in history. They don't teach too many classes on putting things together in that curriculum! In...

    Anyone watching the olympics?

I'm thinkin' the U.S. is a shoo-in for the gold in men's and women's basketball, and I really love the track events in the second week, especially the 100m and 200m. What? Oh, not for two more years? Dang. Well, the Winter Games will do. Maybe we can have a repeat of Lake Placid. Do you believe...

Pork help please (Kinda in progress so the sooner the better)

Not sure what to suggest except for your last question about letting it rest. I have let my butts rest anywhere from 3-1/2 hours to 6 hours. I have never gone 7 hours. I would imagine at least 1-2 hours is necessary, but not really sure.

    3-2-1 Baby Backs Perfect....

Lots of variables and also depends on what one is looking for in the baby backs. I like a little bit of a tug. I have done 2-2-1 and 3-1-1 for baby backs. Next time, I am going to try 2.5-1.5-1. I spritz with apple juice and use a little bit of apple juice when foiling.

    Whole round tip?

I was looking for a top round roast at Costco, but, instead, saw whole round tip roasts. Is that the top and bottom round roasts together? These were 7-10 lbs. each and were literally round or close to it. I really want to get a roast on my GOSM to slice for sammies and wondering if this will...
