    Thinking about a new smoker...

Got it home a few hours ago!  I had a friend on Facebook who has a membership and was up for a shopping trip... Now I owe them a rib dinner!  (I picked up the ribs while I was there too!)  I found a bunch of walmart gift cards that were partially used, saved another 35 bucks from them! Now to...

    Thinking about a new smoker...

Hi All! Currently I have the Brinkmann vertical square charcoal Smoker and enjoy using it.  But it's tough to maintain temps on a ling smoke.  I have a surgery coming up in the next week or so (17th) that will limit my mobility a lot.  So an electric smoker is coming to mind...  I'm looking at...

    Chipping Wood

I have oak and maple which were recently cut from my yard. They were cut a few months ago. If i cut into disks, how long should they dry/age before i use them for smoking? Thanks! Brian

    Oak from my yard...

Excellent!  Then I should have kept the little stuff.  They mulched it all up by the time I got back from the bank...  But now I know.  I'll do the trimming from here on out! Thanks again, Brian

    Oak from my yard...

Hi All, I am (as  I type) having an oak tree cut back in the front of my house.  I use a Brinkmann Vertical charcoal smoker.  OK to use this wood for smoking?  I know to age it and let it dry out.  I was considering using the pieces I don't use for firewood as smoking wood.  Is oak a good...

How hard to mod the Brinkmann Vertical square to be gas, too?

Hi All, I had a lot of trouble this winter (my first season using a smoker) getting my smoker to maintain a high enough temp.  Granted it was cold and windy.  But I got to thinking, would it be feasible to cut a hole in the bottom and place a camping grill into the bottom of the unit? Just a...

challenges with Brinkmann Square vertical smoker

I think they're patio pavers.  Looks like they chipped or cut them to have an angle to match the pan.  I'll be trying this soon! Later, B.

My first Boston Butt (with QVIEW!)

When I first started smoking in November, I checked my digital in boiling water and it was only off by 2 degrees. So, might be different tastes at play, too... Later, Brian

My first Boston Butt (with QVIEW!)

It was wonderfully tender.  The ends of it was nearly fall apart like PP would be.  as I moved in it was a tad firmer, but butter knife tender, to be sure.

My first Boston Butt (with QVIEW!)

Yeah, sliced it.  It was amazing.  It both sliced and fell apart.  the best of both worlds! Man, had it as pulled pork this afternoon.  I could do it again for dinner tonight (and I might!) B.

My first Boston Butt (with QVIEW!)

Hi All, First off,m thanks to everyone who helped me along with this.  The info here and on my inquiry thread was invaluable in my getting this right!  I did a 10.6 LB Boston Butt which I'd gotten on sale and had frozen.  Rubbed it with Jeff's rib rub (which I find is GREAT on everything I've...
