    intakes are all 3/4 . Did notice ran best with one cap removed and ball valve all the way open, and I know you guys regulate w/ just the valve , so should I bump em up in size or are you refering just to the valve? thanx !

    Put together my U.D.S. today . thanks to all the great tutorials by Bbq Bubba and others on this great forum. And yeah , its ugly ! Nother coat of paint wont hurt. tried something a little different . call it the ' core method ' ! whole thing lifts out for ease of cleaning...

    Thanks cowgirl ! Yes , I have heard about the shop vac method and think it is a great idea.However my plan was if my build is succesfull I would like to make a few more to give away to some friends and family who also enjoy a good q. Not all of em will have a shop vac layin around !

    O.k. , I'm lazy . Building my drum today and want easier way to clean ash then just tipping the barrel. But the most suitable things I can find are all galvanized.Can ya use a wire brush or wheel to remove the zinc coating and make it safe ? My alterative is maybe a large tera -cota saucer or...

    This one looks bare metal with a tiny bit of surface rust in one area. Could burn anyway. Not a big problem..just in case .

    Havent tried myself, but just came to me, couldnt you use the same expandable metal we use for our charcoal baskets to make a pepper rack ? Seems the openings would be just about right.Not near my cooker so cant check, but maybe ?????

    Wondering if this would work as a simple ash - removal system for a U.D.S. ? Noticed on some of BBQ Bubba's old posts ( yes , researching a build ! ) the handle for the charcoal basket and wondered if you could put an ash pan below atatched by some rods that extend up the sides for easy lift...
