Need Help!! Smoker wont heat up enough

I've had my CG for a little over a year now. I do have to bump the basket to get the ash to fall thru before I reload it. I saw pics once where someone had cut out several pieces on the bottom to make bigger spaces. I may do this one day. For now, however, it works just fine.

Need Help!! Smoker wont heat up enough

These are pics from a previous smoke, but I used the same method on Saturday. I cooked spares, ABTs & moinks. I cooked between 235-250 for 6 hours & reloaded once. I had no problems getting temps up to 250. In fact, a few times I had to throttle it back to keep it from going over 250. I used...

    Experimental Saturday Smoke

Decided to smoke a couple racks of spares along with ABTs & moink balls. I know the no pics-didn't happen thingy, but I left the camera at the office so you just have to trust me. I also decided to experiment a bit today. First, I went simple from the start. No slather. No complex rub. I gave...

Insurance coverage for my mobile cooker

I would guess that you could insure similar to a boat/trailer & have it added to your homeowners policy.

my first smoke with char griller pro

First, what were you using to measure cooking temps? The therm on the hood of the CG is very inaccurate, plus it is measuring temps in the top of the cooking chamber instead of where the meat sits on the cooking grates. I've never used wood splits in my CG. I use charcoal with wood chunks & am...

    Trouble with temps in CGSP

What coyote said. It is easy to go overboard with mods. You really need to start with basics & learn how your smoker operates. Then do mods one at a time to see if the results is positive or negative. What works for me may or may not work for you. With a CGSP, there are a couple of basics...

    Competition questions

I've only judged one comp. There are 5 judges per table & the rules stated a minimum of 6 individual pieces. This is done so the last judge still has a choice. Although only 6 were required, all the boxes on my table had between 10-12 "bones". The ones I saw on the other tables looked to have...

My new Char-Griller Smokin' Pro w/SFB

When I seasoned mine I had lit charcoal in both the main chamber & the SFB. You want to get the temp up to 300-350 & hold it there for no less than 1 hour. You'll use a lot less fuel by putting some fire in the main chamber. This will do nothing to help you learn how your smoker performs, but...

My new Char-Griller Smokin' Pro w/SFB

If is it like new, the $80 is a steal. I paid just under $200 for mine new & am very pleased. You will find lots of threads on here with mods. My best advice is not to get overwhelmed & go overboard mod'ing it right off the bat. There are a couple of mods that you should do however. 1. a...

    I'm gonna need some help!!

Please don't take this as me trying to be a smarta$$, but there is so much info on mods to CGs out there sometimes new owners go overboard before they ever even fire the unit up. Each person's situation is somewhat unique. I suggest you go back to the basic setup with just the charcoal basket &...

    Looking for a canopy

The cheaper ones at Walmart are exactly what you said -- cheap. They have aluminum frames & will not stand up to repeated use in windy conditions. The Caravan models with steel frame are much more durable & will last. Expect to pay in the $200 range but it will come with a wheeled carry bag &...

    what do I season?

I'm generally not industrious enough to clean my CI grates right after a cook. Most of the time, I clean them the next day by heating them up on my gasser, giving them a good brushing & spraying them with oil while still warm. I normally give then inside of my smoker at light spray of oil as...

    snp temporary mod

Sorry I didn't see this yesterday. Hopefully, you go the help you needed. I had an older model SNP. I used disposable oven liners to make cheap, but pretty efficient baffles & stack mods. I would cut one liner in half. One half I rolled about a soup can to shape then stuck it in the inside stack...

Food Network Going In The Tank

Like most here, I also like Flay's & Brown's shows. Altough Fieri can be annoying, I like Big Bite for the recipes. I'll watch DDD most of the time. I never got into Iron Chef. I do like some of the FN Challege shows, but I agree with a lot of you that there is way too much cake baking. I...

    chargriller pro smoker

Do a search here or Google Chargriller Mods. You will find lots of info. My best advice is to start with a couple of the basic mods -- charcoal basket & stack vent -- the do a few smokes to get a baseline & see what, if any, additional mods you may need.
