I have GRILLED several hundred Tri Tip, but being fairly new to the wonderful art of smoking meat this will be my first attempt doing them on the smoker... I keep reading through all these Tri Tip threads so I had to give it a go!

Well, after a bit of online research I was able to dig up some additional info regarding my "smoker"...
It was made by Union Switch & Signal Company. I found pic's of them used in two different ways. One use is as a remote independently mounted relay box to control more than one train crossing...
Are you using a good thermometer to confirm you are actually indeed running @ 225*?
You should not rely on built-in thermometers alone for accurate temp readings...
Assuming your target temp is confirmed, my next question would be if you smoked the ribs in the aluminum pan the entire time...
What do these smokers sell for new? Is $200 a fair price for a lightly used one? My bro-in-law is looking for a first smoker so I told him I would keep an eye open for deals... should I keep looking?

Pretty good Salmon run this year, I've got some nice fresh orange meat vacuum sealed in the freezer myself, but I am a rookie to smoking it so I'm still browsing through idea's and taking note's at this point!
